Wollemi Pine cold hardiness

The Wollemi pine planted outside the Smithsonia in Washington DC always puzzled me: how did it survive there?

Anyhow, it looks like it has met its match this winter.

This link is from the GardenWeb site; near the bottom of the thread is a photo since the last freeze which shows it is in a bad way.

Hi,

I had two in small pots that survived two winters at my place, in the french alps. The temps went down to -15°C for weeks. They don't seem to be affected that much by cold weather and humidity.

had a beautful Wolemmi that grew to 6' in my sunroom.  When we were away the heating system failed and killed it.  I have been looking for a few years for a small tree, cutting, seeds or branch!  Any ideas where I can find one???

Thanks!!!
