Trachycarpus Geminisectus- Information needed

SHEP

Recommended Posts

Anybody have any information regarding these? Just purchased two, and would like to know the potential height, spread, trunk size, full sun- (morning or afternoon), or filtered, and last, moisture level prefered. I don't plan on planting yet, but would like to plan to save space when they are a little more mature.

I understand they are cold hardy, but no information is posted on the "Freeze Damage Data". Anybody have any experience on the low temperatures their plants have had?

I do have a 15g T. Latisectus, that I am going to put in the Spring, and a T. Nanus in the ground.

Oh, by the way, got these plants and others from Perry of SLO Palms- all are very nice, and I'm pleased.

Thank you.

Hi Shep

Very slow growing, max height about 2m, maybe more in cultivation but nobody has one that large. They take full sun where I live, no idea about California.. Mine are still potted as well and prefer ample water. This one should be fully hardy for you. I think it takes at least -10C or even lower.. I guess there is no info posted because nobody has tried it. I will plant one of mine out next spring.

Best wishes

Flo

How are your geminisectus doing, Shep? I planted mine out last year. Sailed through winter (absolute low was -10C, lots of snow). Still slow but growing much better in the ground.

Has some nice colour to the underside of the leaves:

@SHEP, I still would like to know how your geminis are doing. Any pics? Mine sailed through another winter unscathed, the absolute low was -8C.

Thanks for the information.  Knowing they can take the cold, I can plant them out.  I have three.  I will post pictures when I put them in.
Thanks for posting.  I am gonna be back in your country for some cycling this September.  Cecile

@SHEP Cecile, have you ever put them in? Mine suddenly died in autumn 2016 (that is before any freezes). Haven't got around to planting my backup plant.

I forgot that I ever had these.  I lost these last year, when I had someone take care of my yard while we were vacationing, while they were still in pots.  I was told the seeds came from Edith's yard in Atherton, I am going to check with Perry of SLO if he has any left.  Thanks for the reminder.
