Sorry I don't know, but maybe they use the urban microclimat which helps the temperature not to be lower than minus 6°C?

It is absolutely natural that you do not like this particular palm and generally every palm that is in decline, or heavy shock, or briefly after that. But there had been published pics in natural habitat of such palms, which miss nothing of the attractiveness of a Doum Palm.

Thank you for posting the pictures!

I used to be the local responsible of fous de palmiers, French chapter of the IPS, one of our last project was to work together with the botanical garden's staff on this outdoor palm planting.

The garden is located in zone 8b, with warm and quite sunny summers (2000 hours of average sunshine) but cold winters.

The first part of the ouside planting was done in 2011 but unfortunatly, the following winter brought us the most severe cold spell in the last 30 years (-14°C and a whole week under zero degrees celcius)
