Santa Ana winds ..................

The Santa Ana winds are strong, extremely dry down-slope winds that originate inland and affect coastal Southern California and northern Baja California. Santa Ana winds blow mostly in autumn and winter, but can arise at other times of the year

OK - add your own "things palms do not like "

it can be general statements or specific things just for your climate.

it can even be just for specific palms that you grow or attempted to grow.

take the thread in any direction you want

many don't care for this either :

ALKALIZED WATER (PH 8.5)

Most city tap water in the U.S and other countries is alkalized (OH added) to raise the pH to about 8.5 on average. This is because low pH water tends to dissolve things like concrete drain pipes and copper piping; while high pH tends to form deposits which actually thickens the same pipes. The reason is that thicker pipes rupture less often but plug over time.

Frozen water in the crown.

Last winter we had a white Christmas with wet snow. Overnight it froze solid in the crowns of everything I had. That did as much damage as the winter two years before where we reached the mid-teens. It never officially got much colder than 28F.

If you are near the ocean, most palm species don't like salt spray and it is present whether u see it or not. Of course the beautiful Coconut doesn't mind it at all.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Being dug up. More specifically being dug up not long after being planted. I think Jastin's answer was great too, but that's more what I hate--neighbors coming over and grabbing a palm and shaking it as if to certify they are an idiot and just wanna shake my palms!
