Surfs Up!

I used to be a surf rat when I was younger...now I'm old and chubby and what time isn't spent earning my crust, is spent in the garden! But I still love the surf and am slowly getting lured back to the beach...

Here are some photos I took today at one of the local breaks...

It was a beautiful day down the beach today..air temp was 23C (74F) and water was about 21C (70F)

Even the whales were getting in on the act...

Gold Coast, Queensland Latitude 28S. Mild, Humid Subtropical climate. Rainfall - not consistent enough!

Can't even imagine having superbank as my local break. I would never get to work.

Try working from home and living near some of the best surf breaks in the world. Santa Cruz County is a series of point and reef breaks with surf above 6 feet for two thirds of the year with ideal wind conditions. The same reason we have such a warm coastal climate also accounts for glassy of offshore conditions on a frequent basis: the Santa Cruz mountains protect us from the open ocean and by the time the swells roll into the Bay, they're super clean. We get some flat spells, but for the most part, there is rarely a day that goes by where I don't miss out on epic surf if I don't go. With kids, work, and 300 palms to take care of, I am lucky if I even get to go surfing that much anymore.

The only two downsides are cold water and freakin' massive crowds with a disproportionate ratio of morons to nice people. Localism is alive and well and practiced by non-locals, i.e. kids that move here and think that after living here for 5 years they own the beach.
