Acacia new growth not looking right.

This Acacia is having some issues with new growth being really thin & wide, and curling at the tips. This is only happening on the new center growth. I’m going to cut it back a little to see if that helps. Not sure why this happen??? Maybe two much irrigation, fertilizer, or most likely fungus?

Acacias have phyllodes rather than leaves (although seedlings will initially have leaves). A phyllode is more a modified stem which acts in some ways like a leaf. Looks like what you have there is a phyllode which got confused and thought that it should probably be a proper stem, so it's started sprouting phyllodes like a normal stem would do. I'd leave it, it's only having a little identity crisis. Just humour it along and reassure it that it's a stem and that everything is okay. Lobotomy was never a good solution.

Thanks Tropicobreeze, after doing some research I found out that what happening to my tree is a rare phenomena called Fasciation (See fasciation in acacia).

The curly ones are called Fiddle Fasciation. Interesting stuff…. fasciation in acacia.

Fasciation occurs in many plants. Some make unusual, prized horticultural plants, esp. in cacti and succulents. Generally ugly on woody plants.

I think it's most commonly caused by sucking insects.

SoCal and SoFla; zone varies by location.
