San Diego, which is about 100 miles to the south, is the best place for a large variety of nurseries.

If you want tops for variety, no one beats Jungle Music, owned by Phil on this Board.

(I need to get down there again . . . . )

Yes. There're a few palm nurseries in my country. I'm one of palm collectors there. I'm now staying in Stl Louis, MO for a couple of months and will go to LA for a couple of days.  So I just wanna check out some palms that are not easily to find in my country. I've heard that LA and Florida nurseries got many rare species so I wanna check it out.

Dave,

That's quite a drive to Phil's from LA.  I started early (5AM) and it still took me 3 hours to make the drive down.

Ray, musta been a weekday. You can jet just about anywhere thru LA or past in 2-3 hours on an early weekend.

PS- Also keep in mind, if the traffics up for it, the average speed in LA seems about 75mph....   as long as you are 50 ft behind the guy in front of you.. that's the norm.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I've only visited these two Palm nurseries in Southern California when visiting there and found both of them to have an unimaginable number of palm species for sale.  They are"  Jungle Music  and JD Andersen - both in San Diego county.  Temptations galore!

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!
