BPACS April 2013 Outing

The April 2013 BPACS outing is on this coming Sunday, the 28th of
April. We will kick off at 10:00am at the garden of Lou Randall, 52 Cockatoo
Crt, Caboolture. Lou has created a mini botanical garden over the years and has
a mind blowing collection of desirable plants, including Cycads, succulents and
palms, along with many other interesting plant groups. This is a garden visit
not to miss.

We will then proceed to the garden of Wal and Donna Donovan at 9 Tallawong
Cl, Beerwah.

Wal’s garden at the foot of Mount Mellum, between Beerwah and Landsborough, is a young

garden in so far as Wal and his wife Donna only moved there just over 3 years
ago, so very much a garden under construction. Whilst certain palms were
transplanted from his previous residence in Wynnum-Manly, the majority of plants
have been planted during this time. It is opportune to see many palms close up ,
at juvenile stages before some reach skyward, (he hopes). The garden has
suffered extremes of weather conditions during those 3 years, although it is
quite fortunate that the recent rains and some lovely sunny days have turned
things around and it is looking a picture at present. Wal is also a fan of
bamboo and bromeliads so there’s a few of these plants to check out, and if you
look hard , you might find a cycad or two. There is a balance of exotic and
Australian palm species with an area at the back boundary of his property which
merges into a natural bush zone, not to be built out, here he has planted a
mixture of Aussie palms.

There will be a sausage sizzle BBQ for those feeling peckish. Look forward to

seeing you all there!

Gold Coast, Queensland Latitude 28S. Mild, Humid Subtropical climate. Rainfall - not consistent enough!
