- Jeff has returned! With an auxiliary golf cart to help with the sale.

- I actually took this shot inside the shadehouse while walking fairly fast and not aiming the camera.

- Strange things are happening at the nursery. For the first time, both the Beccariophoenix alfredii and Coccothrinax sp. 'Azul' have flowered at the same time...

DSC_0033.jpg

- Amazing what some fertilizer will do.

DSC_0034.jpg

- Cut Jade Vine flowers were put on display to help sell the plants underneath. Palm leaves can be handy in a pinch.

During the 'Ganza's first weekend, we were doing a 'Palmtalk roll call' and your name came up. We were wondering where you were and then remembered you have attended the second weekend in the past. The weather should definitely be warmer and clear for the second weekend. The cold did not keep the customers at bay, even in the least. They came in jackets and sweaters and other warm gear. We did however go through fewer bottles of water than we had planned. Plant groups that can be restocked are being done today and throughout the week. The rarer and smaller groups of palms, cycads and other plants will be restocked if possible, Jeff will be doing his 'magic' today searching every corner of the nursery looking for material.

Peter

Wow, that alfredii is huge!

A coincidence Peter, but a good one. I was able to work in your biannual request to see the nursery's B. alfredii into the 'Ganza topic before you asked for it. B)

Ryan,

Thanks again for your great pictures and coverage of the sale. It was a lot of fun this past weekend with so many PT members coming by. And thanks so much to all of you and your support that came by and bought plants. The Searle family really appreciates the business!!!

Ryan, it was nice seeing you all again. Do you have the name of the Dypsis at the intersection by the hut, not far from the Caryota that kept being blown over by the wind? The 7 gallon I believe.

Frank, I think you are talking about the 7 gal. Dypsis canaliculata that was right at the corner of where the tent met the sidewalk. It is featured in the photos back up in the topic, in post #11. I do not remember if it was sold or not, I will check this week. It is rather top heavy so I tied it to the tent frame.

Very nice, but I was talking about the one immediately to the left that is trunking and putting out a new leaf. I'm not sure if it was D. procera or D. robusta, can you check for me? Thanks.

I'm curios did the 10gal Cyrtostachys sp. Hybrids sale? I was thinking Ryne made a typo on the price. $1,000.00 bucks.... was that really the price??

Yes, it's the price. It's almost 10' tall now and over 5 years old since I first got it.

That one is the Dypsis basilonga. It is immediately to the left of the D. canaliculata in the 10 gal. pot. It had its own photos earlier in the topic in post #19.

The second weekend is approaching and the shadehouse is ready to go. Jeff managed to pull some surprises and some extras here and there. Mostly it was whatever he could do to replenish from last weekend. Landscape plants were restocked as much as possible, Bromeliads are back to full, Crotons were greatly depleted and no more were added that I could tell. Different plants were pulled for the side road to fill in empty holes.

- Inside the shadehouse, additional plants were pulled to replace those that had sold. Jeff also dug deep into the reservoir of material to produce a few surprises for those collectors coming this weekend, firstly this 3 gallon Welfia regia. ($100.00).

DSC_0296.jpg

- A closer shot reveals more of the red in the newly emerging leaf. Many of these last minute add-ons are plants that were being held to grow larger, get potted up, etc.

DSC_0297.jpg

- Geonoma interrupta, 3 gal. $85.00

DSC_0298.jpg

- Another angle, showing how wide those leaflets can get. This is one of the Geonoma's that can grow here quite well.

- The tables were picked rather clean last weekend so some unorthodox measures were taken to try and fill them back up, including the use of smaller, 3 gallon sized material. In the center of the photo towards the left, two 3-gallon Drymophloeus sp. 'Patipi' were added ($45.00). They are already forming tiny stilt roots. Just to the right is a lone 3-gallon Dypsis rivularis ($45.00) that has good crownshaft color.

DSC_0301.jpg

- Rhapis gracilis, 1 gal. $18.00

DSC_0303.jpg

- Hemithrinax ekmaniana, 3 gal. $125.00 - When in doubt, bring a hemi. One of Jeff's old plants from seed, about 4 years old. It does need to be potted up, or at least a good transfusion of soil. It is due for it, but figured to put it out now before it gets potted up (and becomes more expensive).

DSC_0304.jpg

- Rhapis multifida, 7 gal. $100.00

- Chamaedorea ernesti-augusti, (2) 7 gal. Breeding Pair (male/female) duo, $150.00 (for both plants, sold together) - A unique opportunity for those who like to grow palms. A matched pair of male and female plants to grow seed. They will be sold together, the female plant is on the left, male on the right.

DSC_0305.jpg

- A tighter shot of the male plant with a pronounced inflorescence that is just about to reach anthesis. It has two newer inflorescences ready to join in as well.

DSC_0306.jpg

- The staminate inflorescence, just about ready to go. The flowers are opening, but pollen was not being shed at the moment, at least not to my touch.

*Inflorescences can be a tricky pain to photograph correctly with natural light. This photo was taken with frame metering...

DSC_0307.jpg

- Another photo, taken with the flash and spot metering, take your pick.

- Got to get in some more watering. The last cold front came through and its rather dry. The weather for this weekend looks to be fantastic, mid 50s to low 70s.

- Catch the Rainbow, I tried anyway. I did find some old Skittles on a golf cart though.

DSC_0314.jpg

- Dioon mejiae, 7 gal (forgot the price) - The price is on those lavender tags, I thought I wrote it down but I did not.

DSC_0315.jpg

- Amadeo waters the full sun Bromeliads.

DSC_0316.jpg

- Jeff zips past on his golf cart carrying a Butia capitata for the full sun palm section.

That is it for now, see you this weekend if you plant on coming out for the first or second time.
