At a Lowes in Mt.Airy, NC I spotted about 5 Cocos n. for sale. 1 had yellow petioles the others had green petioles. What cultivars are these?

In all likelihood, they were Golden and Green Malayans.

I am surprised they sell Cocos in northern states! So why don't they sell live christmas trees down here?

Last winter I saw that most of the Lowes around here had live Norfolk Island Pines all dolled up as Christmas trees!

Yes I have seen them, but those are look alikes that will grow well down here. I was referring to Picea sp., maybe Abies, or some of the rarer Pinus species... I know they will be an experiment in futility but same applies to northern Cocos except for people who really have the time, resources and knowledge to keep them alive.

I hear you...I was just trying to be humorous :D

I think someone might need to build a small A/C system around a northern pine to keep it going.......
