Thanks for getting things started Bill. It was a great day with close to 80 members and guests showing up. One of our largest crowds for a garden tour. They were treated to pupu's provided by the Society, a raffle with palms and Thailand goodies from the biennial, and of course an incredible garden tour. There were a couple of heavy downpours just before the event, but never rained again for the rest of the day. Here are a few more photos.

Part of the crowd prior to the tour, yours truly working the microphone, Jerry and Cindy Anderson, a group of Ravenea's and some ti's.

On the trail, lots of room to maneuver. The last one is Neoveitchia storckii.

Other worldly anthurium infructescence, stopping to discuss a group of palms, some Clinostigma and I'm not sure about the one with the white crown shaft in the middle, and

the last is Neoveitchia storckii.

Another shot of that monster Lemurophoenix and a beefy Mauritia flexuosa which was just one of five.

We saw just a small part of the garden as some paths were on the slippery side and not good for a crowd of 80 people, There are so many layers from top to bottom

that one could spend hours trying to see everything. Our garden tours usually have so many people that we've been struggling to find a good solution to give information

and answer questions as we're on the trail. This time we had 'guides' with fluorescent vests stationed throughout the long line and who were somewhat familiar to the garden

to answer questions and to point out the palms. Seemed to work fairly well and we also stationed the amplifier in the middle of the line so most people could hear the

tour leader with the microphone at the front of the line.

Bill and Tim, thanks for posting your photos of this exuberant garden. Jerry and Cindy have put a lot of love and sweat into this exquisite showpiece, and it's a real marvel to walk through. They really have the creative eye for combining plant elements. Love those colorful Bentinckia condapanna!!

It's fun to see so many familiar faces in the photos, too! :) Wish I could have been there, but the photos are a wonderful representation of the event. Thanks again. :)

This is an incredible garden. Cindy and Jerry also have a very comfortable vacation rental right in the middle of the garden that Lynn and I have enjoyed using. Metroxylon and giant Kerriodoxa right next to the front porch. At the risk of sounding like a commercial, let me just suggest that anyone traveling to the Hilo area should check it out. - gmp
