Id this Nannorrhops

Hi, what do you think about this fast growing Nannorrhops? It is not an Iran silver surely, but could it be a Kashmir form or a Pakistan form? Do you have a similar specimen? The leaves as you see are quite glaucous. Look at the hastula too. Any impression? I have searched a lot, but I cannot find any scientific paper about the differences among the different Nannorrhops.

Best regards from Europe

Stefano

Thank you Giuseppe and Buffy for your replies. What are your experiences with the Kashmir form? I have read it is the better Nannorrhops in case of wet winters, isn't it?

Does much better here in wet N. Florida than the "standard" silver variety. Mine is about the same size as yours and puts out about 4 or 5 leaves a year.

I'm still undecided on what form is better. My Kashmir continues to cough up its spears each year. Now, I preface that by saying that mine were tiny when that happened, but only time will tell. I'm thoroughly impressed with how well they recover and their ability to survive. Think about this. Two winters ago, a tiny four-leaved, strap-leaved Kashmir seedling with a diameter smaller than my pinkie finger survived 4 days straight below freezing with only a plastic pot for protection. Ultimate low of around 15F with strong winds. It coughed up its spear, but the leaves had no damage. Once it warmed a bit, it began growing in earnest. It is now palmate with three growing points covering a 16 inch diameter circular footprint. I also have the real silver form in the ground, but it hasn't seen a real winter yet.

This is a great little palm. Unique looks. Good toughness. I'm gonna let my Kashmir fight the winter unprotected this season. I have another one in a pot if my experiment fails. ;)

  • 4 years later...

It looks somewhat like my Nannorrhops ritchieana sp. 'Silver' (silver Mazari palm).
