We were moving 15g Caryota gigas to load when I noticed these two guys hanging out.
The nest is about two inches across, maybe 2.5
Needless to say that plant did not leave the nursery.

I love humming birds. Very cool to have around. I agree, nice of you to leave them alone.

Linda, their feathers look immature to me. It's amazing that hummingbirds tend to build their nests at human eye level, but I guess it works for them. Cool discovery, and a great photo. Thanks for watching out for them.

Why do they look on their backs dead? 
Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

A week later ....
The guys are doing fine, getting too big for the nest and are getting pretty close to lift-off.
They looked bewildered when it was raining with blue skies but we did hold off on fertigation.
