I got lost and ended up at the zoo

This morning I went walking, using my legs in unison, I took a shortcut to nowhere, I wasn't looking for an easy walk, I wasn't looking for anything, I was simply walking.

Along the road I noticed this railway bridge, I thought to myself, whatever happened to Mary Jane Halloran, I also thought to myself, I wonder if I went under the bridge , would I get to the other side and what would be there ? Would I get lost ? I hoped so, I was in that kind of mood.

Down the road I walk

I made it to the other side where some lovely creeks ran, I walked, but the creeks ran, they were in a hurry you see, whilst I was taking my time.

Then I walked along a main road for about 10 minutes until I came to this point, a wall of trees with some palm trees, I wondered what species they were and what could be on the other side.

Palm trees, Car park and why it's the Australian Zoo, it didn't seem real though, even the Giraffes holed up in a container looked fake.

Different Livistonas and some feathered carpark palms, but which species ?

I think I'm way off, they look like Washingtonias next to the Livistonas..my eyes are getting older than the rest of me.

I went a little closer to check the palms over the fence..

It's a jungle in there, I spotted some tall Dypsis madagascariensis types amongst the palms.

To the right of this employee carpark was a wall of plants, Phoenix palms and bamboo dominating.

Walking up towards the actual entrance, I can see the Australia zoo has used palms extensively for effect and screening.

Wal,

Seems like an interesting little adventure! I'm guessing there must be a less unorthodox way of getting to the Australia Zoo! :mrlooney: And lots of palms there! :)

I was there quite early, it was a Monday, and the cars and buses were only beginning to arrive, but I understand like all tourists spots, the theme park places have been affected by the economic down turn. I was going to ask for a free entry to photograph the palms inside for the Australian Palm society but thought again, they are doing it tough, just starting to bounce back. We've had two very bad rainy summers in a row so the holiday makers stayed away from these type of tourist spots.

Here's a shot of the carpark, palms abound.

Here's a few more, there's a cool creek running (I was walking) on the eastern side of the carpark, native bangalows and the odd alex either planted or simply taken up residence voluntarily can be seen in a natural looking environment.
