My dad has been talking about the Osprey's that he's seen fishing over at the local reservoir. He sent me this you tube video link, so I thought that I'd share it with you.

That's amazing, thanks for sharing. Great shots, especially the underwater one. I thought you were talking about the Marines helicopter at first.

Aww! Predation in action! Love it. We have them here and we see them in action quite often. Our house is on a canal that flows into a very large canal. So neat to watch the action. What I think is really neat is the way they maneuver that fish so it is facing into the wind. Makes it easier to fly with.
We also have hawks nesting in the vacant lot across from us. They like to catch rats and snakes and use our back fence as a perch whiling dining on their catch!

There are no ospreys around these parts. But, we do have Harpy Eagles the largest raptor in the Americas with a wingspan of up to 7 feet. Their favorite prey are monkies and sloths. The Harpy will take an adult howler moneiy which is a big animal. In the Ducke reserve a 10,000 hectare forest reserve which is part of the Manaus municipality there is a good population of Harpy Eagles. In a recent study done at Ducke tree sloths were the main diet followed by monkies.

Thanks for sharing, my two boys love birds, especially osprey. We went to alaska from hawaii and saw none. Had to get back
to the city of Seattle to see one. We went over to the Big Island just to see the Alala a raven that exists only in captivity.
