Good luck, Steve. In South Florida, we have safely made it through a very mild winter. Now we are getting ready for March--Dry, hot and our windiest month. Hopefully by late April, the rains will be back. The heat is already back.

hope nothing dies..................

Me too...I dont know why though, its only calling for 39-40 at my place. Maybe it's because its all wet. Good luck Steve, wipe all those wet leaves down.

forecast shows a low of 38 for me too. im hopeing that the moisture we just had will keep the humidity up enough to keep the frost away.

yes. matt explained why. something to do with convection and radiant heat loss or something

It was 39 here at my place last night for my low. Hopefully it doesn't get too much colder than that tonight. I can't wait for spring to finally be here. I know this was a mild winter, but since I was in Hawaii for 15 days in December, it's made it seem extra cold and long here at home!

I think frost occurs at 35--not too sure about 38...

i had frost on my wifes car at 38 this year. did a post on it too. :D something about the rapid heat loss from large objects causes the surface temp to drop below freezing even if the air temp is above freezing.

So does that mean that you make your wide park outside while you get the garage Steve? I just checked weather.com and there were no frost warnings for either of us Steve...

Frost and freeze are different weather phenomenons and to have a freeze temps must be below freezing but frost does not work that way. This morning, as with 4 other times this winter, as I dropped my daughter off with the babysitter at 6am in La Habra all the cars and homes were covered with frost although air temps were about 40-42 degrees. So if it's colder tomorrow I might be worried if I lived in a frostprone area.

Oh no, not again.

It got cold last night, no doubt about that. Guess I'll have to move the tender stuff under the tree of mixed blessings tonight.

TONIGHT THE SKIES WILL CLEAR AND THE WINDS WILL DECREASE AFTER SUNSET. MOUNTAINS AREAS WITH FRESH SNOW WILL SEE TEMPS FALL INTO THE TEENS...PERHAPS A FEW AREAS WILL FALL INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS IN PARTS OF THE SAN BERNARDINO OR RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS. PATCHY FROST IS POSSIBLE IN SOME THE VALLEYS WHERE TEMPS WILL FALL INTO THE UPPER 20S IN THE COLDEST SPOTS.

I was up early enough to double check my digital, remote sensors versus a regular red alchohol thermometer, and both read exactly 40F as my low, out in the open. Under canopy it was about 42F. It's good to calibrate sometimes to make sure you're getting accurate readings.

I have taken to not being worried around here about frost or anything that would damage a palm after a recent rain. At least for 2-3 days. The evaporation around the plant as the humidity is so low will keep the plant warm enough.....

AFTER a few days... different story! By then our usually meager rainfall will have been used up!

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Well, I'm still alive!

And, the palms, too. If anything's croaky, nothing to do with the cold that I can tell.
