Hilo is the county seat of the county of Hawaii, which is the big island. Other Hawaii counties include Maui, which includes, Maui (duh!), Lanai, and Molokai, as well as Kauai County which includes Kauai and (I think) Niihau . . .

That means it's the big city on the island, which is totally cool for a city of only 40,000 odd people.

To give you an idea, So-Cal is home to about 22 to 25 MILLION people, depending on who's counting, when, and why.

So, here continues the visit to the Little H on the Big H, in my C of D, as I take DB pics of houses, etc.

Streetlight on a rainy day.

Dypsis lutes, galoots

Ah, viva Guada La Habra!

Gateway to Whittier! Classic Sunset Garden Zone 23.
Air-drained coastal slope, 20 miles inland, almost entirely coastal influence. Slightly psycho Mediterranean climate.

This is a dracena, like you find in any Home Depot, allowed to grow.

Da kine!

Scream. (The people in the house seemed a little nervous.)

This was actually in a little rural Hamlet right off Route, Ka-anu, something, sorry, nothing to do with Reeves . . . .

This is the junction between Route 11, which goes all around the Big Island, and Kamehameha Street, Hilo.

I'm driving the Car of Doom out of Banyan Drive, which is behind me. The airport is dead ahead, and the infamous Ken's is off to the right, out of sight behind the row of Wodetyias.

WHOA!

My first row of Lipstick Palms.

Screeched to a halt, right near the Subway, headed south on Route 11, nearly caused a wreck, screeched around the corner for drive by pics . . .

Plumbago capensis!

Looking good, in spite of the wet and humidity.

Like an old friend, popping up unexpectedly. See how rich and green it looks, in the middle of Hilo.

Another drive by palm garden, the usual.

Routine, but not boring.

Dinner, home-made curry. Took the powder home on the Flying Sausage . . .

Hotel room had kitchenette, which I used a lot.
