Palmpedia is very complementary to palmtalk when learning about palm species.  Its like the satellite view from height vs local.  Generalized AG science information on palmpedia and on palmtalk we have hobbyists experience from a climate like and unlike yours.  When I want to know about a new palm species my first step is take a look on palmpedia, then I go into palmtalk searches followed by various google searches.  Palmpedia has helped me locate the right palms in the right parts of my yard.  The habitat section often mentions sun exposure, soils, and you get the climate by location.   I have found that placing the right palms in the right places has made a huge difference in "happier palms".  In my last yard, I did have to edit palms for putting them in the wrong spots before I started using palmpedia.
