Two 5 - 10 gallon sized plants up against the house are showing no damage after approximately 24 hrs below freezing with an ultimate low of 20F.   These were recently planted (less than 1 year). Nearby Allagoptera areanaria is showing slight damage to fronds.

Keep an eye on them and let us know if further damage occurs later.

Same two plants mentioned in 1/17/2010 note experienced an ultimate low of 17F with 36 hours below freezing within the next 3 week period.  Both plants were protected with a plastic bucket.  Both palms experience significant dieback. All fronds were fried.  However, within 2 months both were showing new growth and are now growing well. Will probably take 2 years to replace all of the lost fronds.
