Yes it does look similiar to a Dioon mejiae, although at a closer look this merolae has thinner leaflets with a few sides spines. The leaflets also seem to be at an angle unlike the Dioon mejiae.
Here is a closer look at the merolae at DSB.
Here is a Dioon mejiae at DSB in a 95gal 6' Planted Height with a 2' Clear Trunk and 16" Caliper. This has nice fuzzy petioles and one of the more friendly cycads.

To me, D. merolae is one of the most distinctive of the dioons... can't imagine confusing it with D. mejiae.

I didn't confuse the two. I was complimenting them on how well grown it is. Those are some very large 25 Gallon plants and nicely grown.
