Hi Folks,

I was during the last week of september on the Island of Rhodes in Greece. Me and my girlfriend spent a wunderful week there, we visited as much sites as possible in our limited time. We went to Lindos, Petaloudes (Butterfly Valley), Epta Piges (Seven Sprins), Rhodes Town, Kalithea and the southern end of the Island. It is a very nice island - except of the typical greek problem with their waste management...
In the first part of my Travel Log I will show some pictures of palms and other plants I saw in Rhodes.

Here some plants in Lindos.

At first two Plumerias. Plumeria is a widely used plant all over the island. I love it!!

Then I went to Lardos, where Maurice lives. Unfortunately He wasn't in Rhodes at the time, but he told me where I can find his house to take some pictures. The Bismarckia at first is at a neighbouring house.

Once I stopped at a nursery. Just wanted to see what they have to offer and I was surprized to see a relatively large variety of palms. Until now that was very unusual in Greece.

Nice work capturing my little island - sorry I couldn't be there for your visit.

Funny, I haven't seen the King in the park - although I know exactly where that would be and have a good idea where it came from. The Kentia is a surprise as well ( although I know of 2 smaller trunking ones on the island ) and that's the first time I've seen those red plumeria ( must be the only on the island ).

wonderful pix! the howeas are very thick in the trunk,there. here in socal they are more slender.

I guess you should walk with the curiosity of a tourist through the streets of rhodes and you will see things you maybe never have seen before. I was really amazed about the tropical plants and trees I saw.
The King palm is in a small park near a Goody's Restaurant. (I think there is only one in Rhodes Town)
And the Kentia is near the road of the knights (Ippoton Rd.) It really has a thick trunk and relatively small/short leaves for the size of trunk.

As for the red plumeria, I saw them in many gardens throughout the island. But the white one is of course more popular.

Really nice photos , Rhodes is a wonderful island !
Those red plumerias are in the garden of National Bank of Greece near marina . I have take cuttings from there . There is also one trunking kentia in Mitropolis garden , and i have seen one fruiting one but i don ' t remember where it was .

ive been on Rhodos too once..i have visited Greece several times. Last year i was on Kefalonia. I like the country and the people very much...I closed Greece for always in my hart...i will keep visiting other parts..

They do not make ceilings like this any more.

The beaches on the windward side of the town are not particularly user-friendly.
They offer however nice views and plenty of space for kite and wind surfers!
