Good luck with the sale, but with the economy the way it is I don't see many folks willing to fork out a couple hundred dollars for rare dypsis or any rare plant period. I purchased a nice 7gal Dypsis prestoniana on ebay from a guy in Homestead Fl for $39 bucks. I hope times will get better for the nursery man. Mail order IMO seems to be move plants better these days. I've personally have spent $4000 this month on mail order palms because it's convenient. I wish more nurseries did mail order.

Again I wish you well,

Sarah

Wanna spend another 4 grand? :D

You did not get a 7gal prestoniana for $39. It was either a 1gal labled as a 7gal or is was something else entirely. Lets see a picture.

Please refrain from discussing prices in topics like this. It never goes anywhere positive.

And it is never possible to compare "apples to apples."

- One's man's 5 gal, is not necessarily the same as another man's.

- In fact, even one man's Dypsis "x" may not be the same as another man's. Mislabeling and mis-IDing can be a problem

- Condition and health of a plant can differ considerably - bare rooted or not is another consideration.

- Different locations demand different prices.

- And whether the plants are being shipped, transported, or exchanged legally is another major factor in pricing.

So there is no way to accurately asses the "fairness" of any pricing. So buy it if you like it. Don't buy it if you don't. But there is no need to publicly state your opinions on price when not all the facts are known.

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

This is the first sale I have not been able to make it to in years. I was backed up at work on friday. This morning I woke up at 4:30 to drive down and the weather got the best of me so I turned around 20 min in and came back home. Next time I'm down I'll stop by. I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket that I do not mind spending on such quality grown plant material. plus I will be at the fairchild sale.

With a tin cup for a chalice

Fill it up with good red wine,

And I'm-a chewin' on a honeysuckle vine.

Please warm me before posting any pics of pez and the palms he buys this weekend. Even when I'm there he beats me to a few on my list. At least palmisland gets distracted by the crotons.

It was wet for most of today, but still got a larger than expected attendance, covered with ponchos and carrying umbrellas. The storm came through in bands so there were breaks in between the squalls. It was great to see many diehard enthusiasts out and about with total disregard to the rain. I took a very small amount of photos because of the rainfall but will post a few of the better ones. The Rain Day protocol might be put into effect, but that decision won't be made until the end of the day tomorrow. Even with the smaller crowd, the BBQ area ran out of hotdogs already with one more day to go...

13th Annual Fall Plant Extravaganza

RAIN DATE: October 14th, 15th & 16th - 2011

This coming weekend...

Sunday's weather turned out better than expected, with only some scattered showers and some drizzling rainfall that was easily ignored. People did come out in droves but had an unusual obstacle to deal with, the water. At some point between after we left Saturday afternoon and before we arrived at Sunday morning, it poured... a lot. The rainfall was estimated at 5 to 6 inches. The sales area was flooded with a few inches of standing water. It was Mardi Gras for the frogs. Due to all the rain and water, the rain date protocol was put into effect and the sale will be extended to this coming weekend, including Friday. Same schedule and hours of operation, but with the different date. Certain plant groups are being restocked, but for some of the really rare items they can not be replaced. It will be a deja vu of this past weekend but with better weather. If you were unable to attend last weekend, consider this coming weekend. If you want to know what plants will be available post a message here or send one to Jeff or myself.

I have a few more photos I took last week that I did not post due to lack of time. Since the sale is on a do-over for this coming weekend, I went through looking for those containing plants we still have left to sell.

- A cart load of aroids for the sidewalk and the tables inside the shadehouse. It got loaded in a hurry and when I was halfway down the sidewalk I thought it was colorful enough to warrant a photo or two. They're a few left for sale, scattered in a few different places inside the shadehouse. They range from $8 to $18 in price.

- The nursery often gets visitors during the prep week leading up to the weekend of the sale. Some will often be volunteers. On the right, Jeff Searle was talking with the Cohen's, Forum member Scott Cohen's familiar parents. Plantsman and flowering tree extraordinaire Crafton listens while in standing in the middle. You can see how nice the weather was at the end of the day.

- The Bromeliad section as it looked leading up to the sale weekend... well, the first one. A good selection is still available, although moved slightly. Last Sunday saw the deluge and there was a lake in the middle of the section. Photos of that to come later.

Well....it's over! :D We received some more rain today, the final day of our second weekend. All in all, we were very, very pleased with the turn out of customers in between the raindrops and I sincerly thank you all so much for coming out and supporting us. It was great talking to many of you, I know several of you drove long distances to come, and came more than once. We had PT members from California, Arizona, and all over Florida visit us.

And as always, I can ALWAYS count on my good, trusted friend, Ryan Gallivan (Palmarum) for helping me so much and being there everyday in preparing for this sale. Thank you! Now hopefully, we'll see some great pictures soon!

It was a pleasure to be able to make it out to the sale this year and see everything and everyone in person. Jeff has an amazing nursery and garden and I'd encourage everyone to try to make it out to one of these sales if you can. Definitely a highlight of my trip to Florida last weekend. Thanks Jeff and Ryan!

A great place to spend the day, but after pushing that cart around for 40 minutes, it got full and I started getting nervous about getting the little girls home and safe! Maybe we can come up just to say hello and visit--my dad was upset he couldn't go! Thanks again :)
