The South Florida Palm Society will be holding a general membership meeting tonight, Monday evening, August 1, 7:30 pm at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden. 10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables.

Tonight's meeting (7:30 pm) will feature Murray Corman “The Plant Whisperer”. He will give a presentation about Montgomery Botanical Center and the Seed Bank.

We are trying something new at this meeting, pot-luck refreshments with participation by the members. SFPS will provide beverages. The talk will be followed by an auction of palms. Come early with questions about your palms for the answer desk. 305-667-1651

Are your meetings every month, and is it always the first monday of the month? I would like to come to Septembers meeting.

SFPS holds its meetings on the first Monday of every other month, just the even-number months (Feb, April, June, August, October and December). We have no general meeting in September, but I hope you can attend our next meeting on October 3rd.

This is the program for the October Meeting:
Scott Zona has agreed to present the program at the SFPS meeting on October 3. His topic is one of those shown on his website, the Learned Gardener. It is entitled, "The Natural History of Palms: An intimate look at palms, the Princes of the Plant Kingdom and the Big Game of the Plant World." According to the site, the presentation "introduces the palms, a family of over 2,500 species from the tropics and subtropics. Topics include palm geography, palm record-holders, morphology, pollination and fruit dispersal, and new discoveries."
