Ficus dammaropsis

MattyB

Recommended Posts

This is the last of the Ficus dammaropsis for a while, possibly until next year, as I have no new propagations working right now. When potting up I usually just score and cut the pot and drop it into a larger pot so as not to disturb the roots and while doing this I discovered that this propagation was extremely well rooted with an entire 5 gallon root ball! It had completely abandonded and dried out it's original stem and there was no milky sap running through it at all. This means the new roots are doing all the work = strong propagation. I think I'm perfecting my technique. :D I took some shots because I thought it was interesting. This is now in a 7 gallon pot and ready for sale.

$200, pick up, Spring Valley, CA (no shipping)

Here's my blurb:

This plant is an easy grow for anyone in Southern California, from the beach to the inland valleys, does fine in full sun or full shade, very well suited to our climate. You will not find this plant for sale at any nursery, only occasionally from plant enthusiasts, like me, who have taken the time to go through the lengthy process of air layering this plant; thus the reason it's not available commercially. Do some image searching and check out how beautiful these huge leaves are. I know at least one place on the internet selling Ficus kingiana incorrectly labled as Ficus dammaropsis. Beware Ficus kingiana is too tropical in it's requirements to grow here, they always die. My plants are propagated from my mother plant that's growing right in my garden, trouble free, for several years; you can see exactly what yours will look like. You can let it sprawl into a large spreading shrub, or stake a main branch and train it into a tree. Such an awesome plant! Evergreen. New emerging leaves are orange and the leaf veins have a nice redish coloration.

Update: February 2012

I've been getting all of my propagations working since December. Due to the warm winter weather I think they'll be ready around late April or May. I have a small waiting list so PM me with your contact information and I'll add you to the list.

Thanks,

Matt

Bump.

Sorry for those of you on my waiting list, I have to diverge for a sec. I'm strapped for cash right now, and because my current Ficus d. propagation is a pretty large one in a squatty 15 gallon, I'd like to sell it for $400. Its available now for pick up in Spring Valley.

I still have this Ficus d. I guess my $400 price tag was a bit steep.

Any takers @ $350?

You need to put it on E-bay, people seem to be willing to pay a fortune for plants there. Some of the prices I've seen stuff go at are absurdly high.

Someone should snap this up fast.

The trunk on that thing looks thick and that seems to be a key to hardiness as the leaves are about the same hardiness as a banana leaf.

However, the trunk, depending on thickness can take several degrees of frost.

Thicker the trunk, better in marginal climates.

It was growing so big I had to cut it down. I'm growing another batch so I can plant one in a more appropriate spot.

Wanna buy one? I've gotta 2 gallon that's ready to be planted out. $20

Dean....LOL , Nadda. :)

Just sharing info.

I just started growing this plant this summer.

Since most of this are grown in SoCal...I wanted to give a " Marginal Climate" prospective.
