Palm Meeting This Saturday, San Diego Area

Phil

Recommended Posts

Hi Group,

I am posting this here to make sure everyone in So Cal knows about this great meeting. It's at the garden of Gregg Hamann in El Cajon, CA. It starts at 11AM. For more information, please go to the "Meetings" section of this website. Or, go to the PSSC website directly. Here's the link: http://palmssc.org/2010Mar/2009Jan.htm

Gregg's garden is a fabulous garden on a par with some of the best in Southern California. Many rare palms and cycads are going to be seen.

Rain or shine, the meeting will happen. There will be an auction/raffle. Note, a limit of eight auction plants for Vendors bringing plants (no limit of raffle plants)

It is a potluck meeting, so bring a main dish.

Guests are welcome.

Hope to see everyone there.

Len,

I would say your comment is correct. As Gregg has been a collector for many years, you'll see some good size Dypsis you won't see elsewhere. He is in El Cajon, known for cold. But, he's up on a hill and gets some protection because of elevation and canopy. Also, he's done the garden in an aesthetic manner. He just put in a new circular driveway with imprinted palm leaves into the concrete. I haven't seen it yet but anticipate it is very cool.

One other nice thing is that there are plenty of covered areas, just in case it does rain.

And, Phil is not the only one who has told me that this is a wonderful garden.

Gee, Wal, if I had the money, I'd give you a plane ticket . . . .

That's mighty hospital of you Dave, I'm curious, when do you know what's up for auction ? Does the society purchase some palms for the auction ? If so, what's the fare for this meet ? Maybe I'll put in a bid...

Haven't seen this place in over 10 years... it was (and probably still is) one of the nicest palm gardens in So Cal... has LOTs of rare stuff that no one else can seem to grow (though that has been changing lately). Hope hope hope it doesn't rain all day.

I am giving a 1 year old Trachycarpus princepts blue on top and bottom of leaf variety for the auction.

This came from seed I got almost 3 years ago. This one is just over a year old. It's in a 1 gallon container.

I will also throw in a freshly germinated T. princepts seedling. I got the seed from Gary a few months ago.

The pics are the same seed batch that is the 1 gallon plant.
