Dypsis ?

My new favorite Dypsis!Looks a little like D. oropedionis. It starts out with clustered leaflets. All the D.o have started out with regular pinnate and then change to clustered. This palm also grows much faster.Deep dark green leaves.

Got one just like it, same size, I call it D. sp. big curly, Ed

Ed, been there, seen them, not the same palm.

These have MUCH thinner leaves as it were.

I remember when Ron got them, (I should say when I first saw them they were in 1 gal pots) I thought they WERE big Curley because they started out (At least after the 4th leaf or so) with curley irregular leaflets. The oropedionis starts regular then goes regular.

What I can't be sure of is if its a different palm, or a different form as they are very close in looks as they get bigger. But the "Ron" version looks to be a deeper green also.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Thanks Bill, I see what you mean now, Ed

I've been intrigued by these palms since I saw them at Rons and got him to part with one not to long ago.. To me they look the closest I've seen to the "Alfred betafaka" yet.

I doubt it. At least its not the same as the one going around the past few years with that name. Those have reddish/rust colored petioles with tomentum. These are smooth with green or yellow only.

As I stated! Looks like Dypsis oropedionis.Grows faster. Starts out with clustered leaflets. D.oropedionis starts out with regular pinnate. Petioles on the mystery palm are completely green & round in shape. D. oropedionis has somewhat keeled petioles with a yellow stripe in the middle.
