Very old. If it was planted when the first landscaping was done in that area how old would that be? Where would they have gotten seed or seedlings? What early 1900's sources were there? Latania was one of the early palms to come from a remote island that became popular around the world.

It looks like this palm has been inoculated. See the black streaks where the sap leaks out at the base? They are very suseptable to LY as well as Sabal Weavels. It also shows some cold damage. See the frond that is drooping more than the others and the petiole is dark? BTW it looks like a boy.

Also you cut off one of the great IDers from the pic. Does the base have a distinctivly swollen but? Note too the leaf scars on the trunk are more pronounced than in Bismarkia.

Keep'em commin Bub! :mrlooney:

Ken, I think this will give you an idea where it's located. The base does flange. Who knows when Flagler got his hands on this Latan. Probably in the early 1900's?:

is that where the pope of florida lives?

Its an upscale hotel in Palm Beach called The Breakers. The property has a long history that is tied to the development of the town of Palm Beach by its patriarch, Henry Flagler.

Or this...Mr. Flagler sits on the right:

Mr. Flagler always enjoyed travel by "personal railcar". Can you blame him?:
