Jupiter Island, Florida

Traveled up to Jupiter Island a bit apprehensive about the state of the tropical vegetation based upon our horrible Winter. For the most part, I was pleasantly suprised:

Wow, pictures on Jupiter Island. You are a risk taker! I am surprised the police didn't stop you and try to take your camera away. Years ago (like many, many) I use to ride with a cycling group on the weekends and one of our rides was on Jupiter Island down Beach Road. Like clock work, the police would practically escort us off the island and God forbid we stopped or rode anything but single file.

I know what you mean Ron! That place is like an open Fort Knox - I couldnt believe the amount of patroling police vehicles around there.

Great pics as usual Bubba.........

We get really huge Ficus here. This one's about 48 metres high (157.5 feet). The canopy covers an area of about 2000 sq metres (about the area of 2 olympic swimming pools).

Bubba, I saw this monster last week. These roots could undermine this house. Is this what my ficus hedge will look like in 50 years.

Yeah, those law breaking cyclists are scary stuff for drivers in their 1-2ton automobiles. :floor: But hey, if you're kicking people out of PBC that don't follow the traffic rules, this place is going to be a ghost town. Heck, WPB will be without a mayor!

Funny stuff!

My sister use to live on Jupiter Island. Its amazingly rich place. In my past life I installed home theaters for my brother-n-laws business...I've been in half the homes in Jupiter Island...opulence is a good word for it...Beautiful place. There is a small botanical garden on the island as well that you can visit. It has been awhile since I've been there but it has some nice specimens.

Bubba,

That allee is beautiful. Great trees but I don't have the space for one even on my acre of land.

Jupiter Island is full of people who think laws are made for other people. That's where the woman hit the construction worker and kept going. She was on her way to a hair appointment and did not want to be late. Hit and run but I don't think she was charged.

I think at one time they also put our tacks or nails for the bicyle tires in an effort to keep them off their roads.

  • 6 years later...

As an avid cyclist - and palm lover - Jupiter Island has been the source for many inspirational moments in regards to landscaping and life. I'm on there several times a week. If you take the time to find and travel all the roads, even the small dead end roads along the western portion, there are some very interesting mature landscapes with great specimens not normally seen north of the Miami area. I've taken more pictures on the island for later inspiration than I can to remember.
