Thanks for the plants & the great tour Matt. I was amazed at the growth on some of your palms. The extra heat you get seems to make a big difference..The Hyophorbes are growing at ludicrous speed. I was so impressed by your Kentiopsis in full sun that I was inspired to plant mine yesterday in a full sun area. Thanks again!

Great to see you Bret, and everyone else who stopped by. Great news on that Kentiopsis. I just saw Paul's again this weekend and it's amazing how much faster mine is growing due to the full sun exposure. That and I'm a superior palm grower of course.

I did ok Wal. I still have a few things left, but all in all I made some space and it's not feeling so cramped anymore. I'm all about planting what's ready and getting rid of the extras nowadays! No container ranch for me.

I reached that point quite a while ago and guess what happens ?, like a sneaky rat bobbing around the place, potted palms start appearing in your car and you say to yourself, "Huh !, where did that come from ?, ahh, look at it, so nice, it wants to stay at my place, :) just for a little while because I don't collect palms in pots anymore, I just plant them you see and, oh, what's that ?, another one, oh boy, a companion for this other little guy and this other one here and this one....wait a minute...

I've sold all the bigger stuff except the Pandanus furcatus and the Livistona saribus (must be a spiny thang). Several people from Craig's List have expressed interest but you know how C's L people can be.....faaaaallakeyyyyy! So I'll offer a discount to you Palmtalkers only.

P. furcatus, 3 gallon, $20

Livistona saribus, 7 gallon, $20

I've got plenty of Chamaedorea radicalis trunking, seedlings, and still have 2 Pritchardia minor left, a one gallon and a two gallon.

This will be the last time I update this post.

Thanks to all who came by the last week.

  • 3 years later...

Paulownia tomentosa 1 gallon, $10 (I have several of these)

These will grow to 6' tall the first year, 15' tall the second year, and 30' tall the third year. If you want a fast shade tree, this is the fastest we can grow. It has huge tropical looking leaves too. For the firt two years the leaves will exceed 12" in diameter. The two trees you see here are 2 years old! I topped the left one to get it to branch. The right one just keeps growing up!

HI MATTY.....I NEED SOME OF THESE...HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE?....DO YOU HAVE BIGGER ONES?....WHEN CAN I COME AND GET THEM?....

Patty, this thread is way old, so sorry I don't have any of this anymore. There's a guy on craigslist selling Paulowina, search it. You don't need big, they grow fast.

Patty,

I bought a couple from Matt; seemed like good idea at the time. I have yet to completely eradicate them from my yard yet. You're welcome to those that continue to pop up. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Yeah, it took me about 3 years to eradicate the Paulownia after cutting them down. I don't think they were popping up from seed. I suspect that they were popping up from the extensive root system. I'm not sure they can survive being plucked out. Give it a try though.

Here's how tough they are. Gave some to my neighbor & it grows to 15' in less than a year. But it was beginning to scare him & bugs loved the leaves, so he cut it down. So for 3 months there is a stack of 3" diameter "logs" from it just sitting on the dirt. Every one begins sending out foilage & is trying to re-root. It's like some slow motion horror movie, the monster that you can't kill even when chopped into little teeny bits.
