I was not familiar with this species, but after a quick check this looks to be a very good deal. I wonder if the cold tolorance is similar to a bottle or spindle? Would be cool to container grow this one in my climate.

They seem to be about the same or just a little more cold hardy than bottles and spindles. I have three ekmanii planted in my yard only a few feet from some bottles and they went through 28 degrees last year without protection and only had one bottom frond yellow out and partially die back but the bottles had moderate to severe damage on all the fronds.

This is crazy, it is only good for 20 year olds, to see it in reasonable size when they are 70 years old... Yet how many 20 year olds will be able to afford a house and still live in it after 50 years... Buy this palm for your newborn and by the time your newborn retires the palm may begin forming its trunk. It should be renamed into Five Generational Palm, germinated by one generation and raised to adulthood by a generation 100 years later. How long does it live for? 200 years?

Average day temperatures: +17°C in the winter and +24°C in the summer. Typical Summer: 68F to 77F (20C to 25C). Typical Winter: 55F to 64F (12C to 18C). Record Low (past 5 years): 45F or +7.7C (once a winter, some winters). Record High (past 5 years): 83F or +28C (some days only). Elevation 140 m (459 ft.) to 160 m (525 ft.), latitude 38.54º. Am I correct to say that if it grows 2 feet in 15 years that it will grow to 20 ft. high in 150 years?

No...once they are about 3 feet tall, growth speed seems to pick up considerably.

Wow, great photos! This just makes my heart ache that I don't have anywhere to plant right now, I should have been more established and planting things for the long term years ago. Of course, realistically, hardly anyone buys a place in their 20's and stays there forever.

Corpus Christi, TX, near salt water, zone 9b/10a! Except when it isn't and everything gets nuked.

Any insight on the blight that has been hitting the Sargentii's? I lost a 30 year old one and had another recover. But Ive seen others affected and heard Fairchild lost some also. I plan to get up there to pick up a couple of Ekmaniis

There's an article on it published in 2013 in the Palms journal. It seems that only reproductively mature plants are affected, but that it seems otherwise random which individuals will be affected.

Those plants at Fairchild seem to be moving along pretty well now.  The growth is noticeable from Zeeth's last update in Jul/2015. Beautiful palms for sure!
