I still don't know where to plant this Tahina but it is already getting too big for his pot. So its time for a repot and a quick inspection of the roots.

We measured the latest leaf at its widest and...

... its 23 inches wide. Almost 2 feet. There is a new leaf coming out so that should be wider still.

We tipped it over and I was very curious to see how the roots were. looks like a nice healthy root ball with a pretty extensive network of fine roots. Clearly it needed to get more soil else its growth might slow down.

Nice and snug in its new home for the mean time.

This seedling has actually overtaken teh one that I planted in the ground around May.

Here's a link to pictures of that seedling on my blog posted in August:

This one in the pot gets more sun so I guess at this stage the extensive root growth that you get being planted on the ground is out trumped by better sun exposure.

Gene, please be sensitive when posting pictures of your Tahina children. See yours are headed off to college and ours are still in pre-school and that makes some daddy's jealous (Daddy Bill)! He is still crying.

I think it really like the heat and long hours of sun. The one in the ground is shaded on certain times of the day and only get direct sun maybe 3 hours probably less.

This one in the pot gets probably 10 hours of direct sun and and it has already outgrown the one in the ground. This one also has more leaves. If it was left in its current pot it woud probably start slowing down coz it would have eaten up all the soil.

Nope.  The one in the recent photos was the first one I planted in the ground.  It's the one I keep on referring in this post that was smaller than this one I am repotting here.

I ended up planting this one in place with even less sun exposure than the first one so now this one is a bit smaller than the one in the recent post.  It's maybe only 15 feet tall now
