With the upsurge in Lethal Yellowing, I was a little concerned that these Rednecks had caught the Bug:

Something's definitely up... Didn't you have a post about how you had seen no LY lately in any coconut palms over in Palm Beach though?

Here is a closer shot so we can get the LY hounds to identify the first case in a Redneck Palm:

Bub,

When we learned how to tell if a coconut had LY they told us that other palms show different symptoms. Redneck symmptoms can be found described in many popular jokes but not so as they pertain to palms.

I would be willing to bet, that if there was LY in the area, the coconuts would have caught it way before the Dypsis.

Bubba, Looks like potassium deficiency in my opinion. Other palms in the area look like they also have that same deficiency. Hard to tell without getting a close look. Next time you're in the area see if the lower fronds have orange specks or some sort of fungal growth. That may be a good indication of K deficiency.

Bubba, my tall red gets like that during the dry months from the drying winds. Well maybe not that bad, but I am guessing you took these photos in Palm Beach so maybe its the salt air as well.

I agree that it certainly looks like Potassium deficiency. If so the damage is done. However an application of potash and epsom salts should boost the K levels and prevent further shrivelling.

I have no experience with LY though. Oz doesn't have LY. It may still be LY. I hope not.

Best regards
