Just so you know, I deleted the duplicate thread (there were no responses to that one).

Edit (3 minutes later) - right after I posted the above I realized you also had a THIRD thread! But only two brief replies (from Dave in So-Cal and Palmhut1). I deleted that one as well, just so you can have all the replies in one and the same thread. :)

Yes Bill I have a clue and it involves the planting of a trashcan sized plant.

If so, that's pretty brave to do this early in the year. We're gonna be draggin' along in some cool weather for several months I'm afraid.

I have to disagree. Accuweather shows my average low of 48 until March 11th (with only two days below 47) and average high around 60 (with some days in the 70's). I just planted a teddy X triangle today without reservation.

Nick, I've planted teddies, triangles and a bunch of other stuff year round. I mean like December 26th cold. But throwing a rare, heat loving palm that you paid a lot of money for in the ground now is just scary. But I guess it's been outside for a couple of years so it's not like it's coming out of the greenhouse.

I'm in the frame of mind that if a palm has been sitting outside in a pot for a while it actually would benefit from being put in the ground regardless of the time of year. Those black pots help warm the roots a bit but IMO the ground insulates the roots better. I planted 20g Kentias about a week before the Jan 2007 freeze and they showed little damage if any. All that being said, I would definitely not take a palm right out of the greenhouse and plop it the ground in mid Dec. Plus in Bill's case he has two other Prestoniana's to replace his Big Curlyiana if it croaks. :mrlooney:
