Internet Palm Vendors

13 posts in this topic

Hello All,

Aside from RPS & Ortanique, I've been watching the following palm seed suppliers. Can anyone vouch for them? Any troubles ordering/receiving seeds? Are their seeds fresh; do they germinate? I don't want to be gypped or have my cc# stolen.

Seedrack.com

Thaipalmseeds.com

Amazonia Palm & Exotic Seeds - This site confuses me. It offers some seeds "in stock", others as "coming soon" with proviso that buyers commit to purchase at unspecified prices. I don't commit to anything open-ended like that and I've noticed in the past several months the coming soon stuff never arrives. What's the deal?

I ordered a couple shipments from Amazonia, run by David Coca (I think that's his name), about 5 years ago. There were no problems in dealing with them. Some of the seeds germinated well, others were beyond viability, a problem that can occur in any seed transaction. As I recall, I got Trithrinax campestris and they were sealed in plastic. They germinated well.

I had a good experience with Thaipalmseeds.com. The Areca catechu 'dwarf' seeds I ordered arrived quickly, had a reasonably good germination rate, were well cleaned and appeared to be freshly harvested.

As to their actually producing DWARF Areca catechu palms, we'll have to see.

I had ordered some Livistona rotundifolia seeds from  Thaipalmseeds.com this past year, and had no problem with them....as a matter of fact, they had a problem with getting the seeds, emailed me immediately, offered to refund the $, but i was willing to wait for another batch...they kept in regular contact until i received my seeds.

And, BTW, the seeds were very fresh.

Thanks for the info.

Cagary,I, too, wonder whether A. catechu dwarf seeds germinate true (I doubt it). Let us know your results. Does anyone out there know the % of seeds that do (25%? more? less?)

I'm brooding about 100 seeds of variegated Sabal palmetto. Only a minority will turn out variegated.

I have never dealt with any of them. Who would agree to buy something with an open end agreement like that. That sounds pretty fishy.

Does anyone here have any experiences dealing with the palm vendors on eBay?

I have seen a couple of them selling palms there and was wondering if they are reputable.

Specifically there is a vendor called palmswholesale and the name of his store is Coconut Climber.

And another calle baying4u and the name of the store is EXOTIC Palms Cyads Plants Trees.

And another called blueskies.858.

I think they are all shipping from SoCal according to their listings.

wtrskiscout, I've watched Coconut Climber for a long time, but never ordered from them. Not familiar with the other two, will look at them. As I live in FL, I'm not sure CA stores will/can ship live plants to me, only seeds.

I did order seeds from ebay store MOTHERNATURESGARDEN STORE. Palms were fairly common (at least in FL) for the most part, but prices weren't bad. Seeds haven't germinated yet but it's been only 5-6 weeks.

I also watch store earthlyparadisegardens.com, apparently located in LA. Haven't bought yet but am considering, as they have some interesting stuff in stock/pending and decent prices. Any feedback about them would be appreciated.

Also, I am looking at store MB-Palms23 in Orlando. Some rare palms there. Ditto on feedback for them.

Meg,

I have had good luck with earthlyparadisegardens, very good germination rates on their seeds. I can email you the latest newsletter if you would like it, I just got it a couple days ago. David who runs the nursery is very friendly, fast and has been a pleasure to do bussiness with. Some of the palms he sells are a little smaller than would be expected, but the price is also much lower than the going rate. Let me know if you would like the newsletter, I have found that doing bussiness with them directly is the best way.

                             Regards, Mike

I've gotten great palms and/or seeds from MB-Palms23, earthlyparadisegardens.com, MOTHERNATURESGARDEN STORE and palmswholesale. (sorry, I'm an addict).

Give them a try!

Have bought TONS of stuff from Paul at Palmswholesale. Better than expected palms, always packaged well, prompt shipping that is easily trackable. Paul has a lot of varieties of palms that aren't listed in his Ebay store so I simply shoot him a message and ask if he has something that I'm looking for.

mr.palms12 on Ebay. Pretty good stuff, don't package well and like most florida nurseries that ship via USPS tracking is spotty at best. My mail man said it's not uncommon for certain sort centers to skip the scanning process when handling packages. A few of the palms looked "weathered" when they arrived.
