September 16, 2017 MEETING TAKE A DEEP BREATH The PSSC’s September 16, 2017 will be at two gardens in Orange County: Bill Dickenson and Bob Burtscher, both in Fullerton, in the northern part of the county. Mr. Dickenson has shown his garden a number of times before; Mr, Buirtscher’s garden is hosting a meeting for the first time. FIRST GARDEN Bill Dickenson started his garden so long ago, it’s a bit scary; back in the 1970s, when he first bought his house overlooking a nearby golf course. A long-time and continuing Board member, Mr. Dickenson has some marvelously mature specimens for your viewing pleasure, the crown jewel of …

I looked on our Southern Cal. Palm Society website, and find no mention of a November meeting. Will there be one, as usual? I know meetings are often announced at the preceding one, but that leaves those of us who weren't there out of the loop.

TWO GARDENS, SIDE BY SIDE RARE SPECIES, MATURE TREES - PLANT AUCTION AND RAFFLE GARDEN #1 THE QUA GARDEN 5328 BRAGG ST., SAN DIEGO, CA 92122 Bret and Linda Qua purchased their home in early 2002. Within a year they had begun work on installing a pool and working on hardscape and landscaping, of course centered around their love of palms. Bret has attempted to create a somewhat wild looking, only marginally manicured garden with palms that appeal to him. As such, there are a combination of both common and somewhat rarer palms. Three sizable Washingtonia that came with the house still surround the spa, while other less common species abound such as Roystonea, Burretio…

Dear Palm Lovers: We at the PSSC are enormously pleased to announce that we will be holding our Saturday, June 18, 2022, PSSC meeting at the homes and gardens of John Boyer at 21561 Archer Circle, and Guy Young at 21551 Archer Circle, in Huntington Beach, CA 92646. We have visited both of these gardens in the past, and they are better than ever. Both John and Guy have engaged in remodels of their homes and gardens. You'll note the changes and love the things they kept, we promise! One thing they kept was their friendship gate in the backyard for easy access to each garden from the other. If that's not friendship, what is? John Boyer removed …

Dear Palm Lovers: We are extremely pleased to announce that we will be having our November 19, 2022 gathering at two gardens in northern San Diego county, one in Encinitas, and the other in Oceanside. Garden No. 1: The first garden will be at the home of Tracy & Dana Strahl at 1723 Eucalyptus Ave, Encinitas, CA 92024. The garden in the coastal Leucadia portion of Encinitas was started in 2010. While this is an older neighborhood, the quarter acre lot was stripped nearly bare of plantings after they purchased the home to make room for Tracy’s container collection of Palms and Cycads he accumulated after running out of space to plant in their…

Two gardens, both full of wonderful palms, many of which I haven't seen in the ground in California before. At their peak in San Diego's glorious climate. Garden No. One: Nick Ordille, 1075 Guadajara Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024. The front yard has some very nice (A…
