Well, this is something I thought I'd never see. 2 of my Chamaedorea elegans that are in the same pot and have been indoors all their lives, have put out infloresence. Is this particularly rare? I've tried to look at websites but, I can't seem to find any info on this.

Chamaedorea elegans treehouse

Built a miniature treehouse (approx 1:48 scale) for a pair of c. elegans I've had for a while. The base structure of the treehouse is a balsa wood kit I bought on Etsy that I then added my own accessories to. I always love imagining I'm a tiny explorer in my huge plants, like Zac in FernGully. Here's the link for the kit: https://www.etsy.com/listing/673224150/amazing-plant-house-miniatuur-boomhuis?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_fathers_day_All_Products&utm_custom1=_k_EAIaIQobChMI6ufkhbvx7wIVUQZ9Ch3G2gCLEAQYASABEgK-n_D_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_1707961842_69268681569_331635230091_aud-406953526999…

chamaedorea metallica discolored leaves help!
by mercwalters- 1 reply

I am new to palms and received my first palm, chamaedorea metallica, a week ago from an online seller. upon arrival the plant looked healthy but had some weird looking variegation on its leaves with the metallic sheen portions surrounds by a black border (see below) as the days have progressed the leaves have gotten a white rim around the metallic sections and very stiff and dry. the plant is still in its nursery pot and needs a repot but i’m trying to let it acclimate first. any insights as to what may be going on would be much appreciated!

Chamaedorea radicalis Growth Rate

My chamaedorea radicalis is growing quite fast. I get 1 leaf like every 3 weeks to a month. Maybe that is normal but it seems fast. How fast do they normally grow? I would love to hear about other people's experiences with growing chamaedorea radicalis. Also if you have pictures of your own radicalis please post them do I could see them. Thanks

I have a few Chamaedorea tepejilote and Chamaedorea radicalis seedlings and I’m concerned about the leaf colors (yellow rad, very deep green tep). The first picture shows what I think are one rad and two tep. The second picture I think are all rad. The top seedlings are sitting against a north wall and should get basically no direct sun; the bottom palms may get some filtered sun in the afternoon (based on this photo, more than I intended!), and some direct sun in the evening. Does this look like a light issue or a nutrient issue? They’re in pure coco coir and I have not been fertilizing until very recently... but I know the Texas sun is a lot for these palms…

Chamaedorea seifrizii identification/help

Hello everyone. I spent way too many hours last night perusing the forum and being intimidated by the vast amount of knowledge y'all have so I thought I'd make an account to ask for your sage advice. I am brand new to palms and plants in general. I bought a beautiful Bamboo Palm specimen (Am unsure of exact species, would appreciate if anyone can identify) I named Robert. I was told he was going to be around 4ft, but when delivered he arrived at 5'8" (with spider mites which I am currently trying to handle) which was a lot bigger than expected, and now within 3 months has grown to almost 7ft, which presents a predicament for me as my ceilings are only 7ft tall. So my…

Chamaedorea sp?

Morning from Spain! These 2 palms came sometime ago from a pot of too many Elegans. I realised that they could be another specie, and I separated them from the rest of Elegans seedlings. They grow incredibly fast. Any idea of what are their surnames? Thanks

Please post your experiences with growing Chamaedorea tuerckheimii in pots, your comments to soil mix, watering, light requirement, humidity, growth rate, fertilizing, deficiencies, pests, etc. Though I don’t have much experience with this species yet I’ll start with my seedlings just germinated in 2015 during last autumn. The seedlings are in 8x9cm clay pots, the soil “mix” is 100% pine bark 2-8mm (only in one case mixed with a bit coir Kokohum®). As the seedlings are still very tiny I water only a bit, until water comes out of the draining hole. The water I’m using is carbonate free, acidic from a fountain in SW Germany (Odenwald). The palms stand on a desk in a li…

Chamaerodea elegans I'm trying to save

Saved these from a poinsettia holiday basket at work.....at least I hope I can. Looks like they got a little "sun burn". Split the 8 palms into pots and gave them a sea kelp shot and will be seeing how they do. Hoping I can save them, guess time will tell.

Hello everyone, Great to find this place. I have had a chamaerops for a month, re-potted when i got it from the shop, and would like your advice as to the best way of taking care of the plant based on the issues i have encountered. - Leafs had some spots since i got it, maybe they have got a little worse; - There is some bending on some blades/leafs; - Tips seem to be brown on some leafs. Plant has so far had some really hot summer with over 35 celsius, it is exposed to sun most of the day and i have been watering every 2 days or so. Any advice would be welcome.

Chamaerops as Bonsai
by Pal Meir- 1 follower

I think Chamaerops are the palms that are most suited to bonsai because they don’t mind root pruning, can survive longer draughts and become over 100 years old. I can present two examples which have suffered longer draughts, one has also survived the last German winter 2015/16 all time outdoors. The older palm was grown up in 1986 from a seed of a Sicilian palm (Palermo). The first pic was taken in 2003 when the palm was 17 years old, the second pic is taken today, now 30 years old. The yellowing of the fronds was caused by longer frosts during last winter. The younger palm (var. argentea = cerifera), grown up from RPS seed in 2003 and till 2015 in a small …

Chamaerops fungus or tomentum?
by Keys6505- 6 replies

Howdy, can anyone tell me if this is fungus or tomentum? I first saw the spots on the leaves a few weeks ago but found a thread on here saying it wasn't unusual for Chamaerops to have white residue. It seems like it is much more abundant on the new leaves and the neighboring potted Trachy now has some white spots on the closest petiole as well(first pic Trachy, second and third pics Chamaerops).

Hi everyone, This is my first time attempting to grow a Chamaerops humilis indoors. I am battling a scale problem but aside from that I have noticed the fronds getting darker and darker green. I keep this indoors for roughly 5 months of the year. I am posting wondering how others treat this species indoors. Any tips; watering, lighting, fert would be greatly appreciated!

So I was going to put my Chamaerops into the ground but I've decided to wait and just put it into a new pot but it's completely grown out of this pot and been wanting to put it in a new pot but I'm unsure what size? I also saw this white stuff on the leaves want to know what it is and should I spray it with neem oil? and I saw this yellow mushroom growing but I'm unsure if its harmful or is it fine?

Chamaerops humilis var cerifera...painfully slow
by mdsonofthesouth- 11 replies
- 1.6k views
Both put on 2 fronds right away but have taken months to barely push out a 3rd. They get OK sun, sit at 70f+ and get controlled watering. Gave them a shot of organic sea kelp and water few weeks back and thats what seemed to start the next fronds. Might do a monthly light handed "feed" for them from here on out. Love the way these palms look but they grow slow as molasses in winter time!

Hey all. I got some C. watermelon macro's from Bill Austin. I'm in the middle of cleaning some tough flesh off the outer fibers between soaks (1 day has passed). Thinking of sowing them today. Any opinions on the best methods of germination for this species?

Chambeyronia has a new burnt tip

Hey palm pals, my tiny flame thrower was doing pretty well until recently when it started to pop out a spear tip which looked to be burnt. I thought maybe it was from a pest as I know there are quite a few lurking around my patio. I sprayed the palm and have been staying on to of that but the emerging tip hasn’t grown at all in some weeks. I hope it isn’t dead. I repotted it after it seemed to have stunted and that’s when it started pushing out this new spear which seemed like a positive sign. Could it be from the cold? It’s middle of winter here and we have had some cold nights… no freezes though but has been close.
