Hello my fellow palm lovers! It’s been quite a while and I’m exited to be back. I’ve been very busy over the summer with my family, so all the traveling and everything is finally over. Anyways, after a while new fronds on my sago “palm”, ( I hate calling it a palm, because it’s now) has finally started developing. And they are looking nice. Sadly my date palms died so I’m growing new ones. Also if any of you care I’ve made a yt channel. It’s @jakesplants on YouTube. Looking forward to more post's from me

A couple of surprises here in the Atlanta area, which became a barren wasteland after 2014. Big Orange trucked in a bunch of out-of-zone palms for us. Here are a couple at $80 each --> Question: Do y'all resize photos prior to posting here? I try to reduce to an 800x600 size for loading on devices.

Short answer is NO I had an alocasia potted in a farmers pot sitting in a decorative pot. It suffered a severe spider mite infestation so I elected to simply remove the alocasia from the pot and place it out doors. I then moved my kentia palm (also in a farmers pot) into the same decorative pot. Just sitting there. And guess what. Kentia palm now has spider mites. make sure you absolutely sanitize any pot your use if it suffered from an infestation

Dying indoor Lady Palm

This palm has been struggling inside for over a year now. I have new African violet potting mix for it but I read you shouldn’t repot if the plant is in distress. I was away for two weeks and I don’t think my house sitter took proper care of it. I’ve been trying to rehab it since. It has plenty of indirect sunlight and water (not too much). I mist it, I clean off its leaves, I tried 9-8-7 fertilizer on its “sibling” and it did not make it (same age, same nursery, same size). I live in 9B and I’m thinking about planting it outside to save it. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

sick trachycarpus fortunei?

Hello, i am new here to this forum and wanted to come on here to see if i could get some help on figuring out what could be stressing out my trachycarpus fortunei (windmill palm). I got it around 2014 shipped from Florida to Colorado. it’s about 7 years old and it’s been in a container its entire life, totaling 3 total pots up to this point. I’ve been wondering if that could be an issue as it’s been at least 2 or so years since i’ve repotted the palm. Aside from that i’ve always watered regularly and have tried to keep a good schedule. I’ve missed a few times here and there over the years and haven’t been 100% consistent (i mean who is) but i try not to let it dry o…

I've had these for a few years and I thought I'd share them. I just don't know what to do with them, but at least they are happy! Maybe I should buy some fancy pots and bring them indoors. I bought these several years ago from a Chinese couple that were tenants to an empty house in Danville, CA. They had these listed on Ebay and when I saw their location- about 30 minutes away- I offered to pick them up and they accepted. They had several of these. I'm happy I stumbled on the offering. These have been just chilling in their pots for years in the shade. There's sprinklers, so thats the steady water they get. This is supposed to be a lawn area in my yard,…

Rhapis Palm needs help!!
by aieshap- 4 replies

Hey, so my palm isn't doing so well. She was repotted, into a pot the next size up from what she's in now (probably too big) and I used the indoor Potting mix I had left over. It stayed pretty moist down the bottom and she started to get a little droopy. So I added perlite and some orchid bark (guy at the nursery said it "can't do any harm"?) And repotted back to the pot it's in now. Now she's looking like she's really in need of some help. What can I do to get her back up again?? I asked the guy at the nursery for loamy Soil and he said it's usually only if they're in the ground, not in pots? Any advice is appreciated, thanks

growing palms indoors
by Desertlife4me- 1 reply

A question for the palm experts. I know that many plant's growth will be limited by the size of the container they grow in, is this true of all palms as well? I currently have a few palms growing indoors, that cannot survive the hellish summer we have here including a trachycarpus fortunai, Dypsis Lutescens and a few Andondia Merillii sorry if I misspelled the names....

Grow lights

Hi I did search this forum as i need to set a grow light setup this winter for about 40 various seedlings. One thing i keep reading is people trying to grow their palms indoors so they run the lights 10-12 hours and some 24/7. I don’t want to grow my seedlings, i just want to keep them alive during the 2-3 cold months. Do i need to run the lights that long? To note in my 7b zone even in the dead of winter they go out once or twice weekly during warmer spells for 2-4 hours. They will also be placed in front of a normal sized south facing window. Thxs Pat

I am wondering what you guys use as fertilizer and the frequenzy. Information on the potting mix would be great as well. Currently I have these fertilizers at hand. Which would be best for a potted palm with a medium without any nutrition. Liquids: Fish Emulsion 5-1-1 Liquid kelp Solids: Triple 17 Gaia green 4-4-4 organic Fish meal Bloodmeal Bonemeal Kelp Alfalfa

Gary's Top Pot for Palm trees?

Thought I try to put some desert palms in this mix. Recipe is: 35% peat 30% Pumice 20% Perlite 10% Sand 5% charcoal Can I switch out the charcoal for Biochar? Can I use Coco coir instead of peat? Seeing this has no nutrients in it what would you guys recommend I fertilize with? Will liquid feeds do fine? I was thinking fish emulsion + kelp This is for a Date palm/Phoenix Datilfera I plan to put in a really big pot.
