What's wrong with my Kentia palm?

Hello everyone! I bought it about one month ago, had a few totally brown leaves which I've removed from the bottom. I'm watering it once per week after I make sure the first 2 inches of soil are dry. The humidity is low, only 40% (already ordered a humidifier for it), I'm spraying some water on it each morning that I hope it helps. What are these brown/black spots on the stems? Should I worry?

Source for pots?

I'm new to this section of the forum so please forgive me for asking a dead standard question but I just bought 100 3.5" pots off of eBay and got swindled. I'm growing Chamaedorea microspadix and have seedlings in six packs now ready to pot up before the weather cools off. I know many places throw plastic pots into the trash but I was unable to track any down so I bit the bullet and ordered some from an eBay seller. They're absurdly flimsy, shallower than standard pots and nearly useless. I can delay potting up another week (temperatures expected to hit 100 later this week) but seek your recommendation so I don't wind up with more inferior product. Can you sugg…

Palm Fertilizer Options
by Cayman1- 1 reply

I have several potted Majesty and Christmas palms, that came with the new house, that are potted with a white rock topping. I gave them a little sprinkling of my Florikan 8-2-12 Palm Blend, but what I feared, happened. I am no expert, but I believe it's the iron in the fertilizer that gave the white rock topping a rust looking stain on them. And it is my thought that this iron is really important. LOL All of that said, any fertilizer options to keep them healthy that won't rust up my rocks? 😎

Hello everyone I have a question regarding potted areca palm. My palm has developed some kind of brown and transparent spots. I am not sure what is the case. The spots are on the largest leaves, so I would rather not have them cut off. Do you know what the issue is and how to treat it?

Cone-tainer Roots Growing Out of Bottom - Is this a problem?
by floridaPalmMan- 5 replies
I don't know if this is an issue or not, but almost all of these germinated seeds have roots coming out of the bottom of these cone-tainers. Bizzy: S. Schizo: What's weird is that they haven't even pushed through the surface yet. Should I up pot them already? They can be moved from the 8" to the 11" cones if I have to but can that really be necessary before they've even put out a strap leaf?

ID Help

Can anyone assist in identifying these 2 palms. We just purchased a house that had them in the screen pool area. They look like they need some extra love, so starting off by trying to determine what they are. If you can see the condition and recommend a treatment, that's helpful as well. Thank you in advance.

Separating washy seedlings
by 5am- 1 reply

How much care must be taken to separate Washingtonia seedlings from a community pot? I’ve collected some 50+ seeds and will have plenty of room for 50+ trees but present circumstances may not allow for 50+ nursery pots. If I put 10 germinating seeds to a 5gal pot and decide to separate them during the strap leaf stage by hosing the dirt from the roots are they likely to survive? Is there a better method? Pics of some parents, just for good measure.

Tropicals in my front yard.

Well, here's the moment of truth of certain tropicals growing in my yard. Some I put in the ground last fall, starting with my eureka lemon, along with my pineapple guava; (the pineapple guava had two flowers this past spring, but no fruit as of yet, and the flower petals are deliciously sweet) and fig tree (the fig tree back in June already had a few fruits) which was put in the ground last fall. China Doll, Tabernaemontana coronaria plena (butterfly gardenia) I put in the ground mid summer this year; and the one I asked questions about mid to late winter, Dombeya wallichii (pink ball tree, tropical hydrangea) around April this year was put in the ground. I'll try sendin…

What's Happening To My Palm Tree?
by keeppalmandcarryontreeing- 8 replies

Hi! This is my first time taking care of a palm tree. Lately, there have been brown spots appearing on it that look like rust and they are mostly on the top of the leaves. I don't know what the problem is. Can anyone with more experience help? For more context: I don't know the type of palm tree as it wasn't bought. The seeds came from dates that were from Saudia Arabia. It's potted and I think there are 4+ seeds in it all sharing the same space. I don't think that might be the problem since they've been growing just fine. The palm tree grew up inside and then we took it outside during the spring and summer so it could get more sun. Here are the pictures:…

Stink water 2.0
by JohnAndSancho- 9 replies

Not gonna lie, I'll probably repost this in a busier subforum. But here we go. I bought more Alaska fish emulsion, some humic acid/liquid seaweed, chelated iron, and Bonide systemic insecticide. Am I stupid or is this a good mix? Did I spend too much money? Will this be the anabolic steroid I'm hoping for?

HELP! Lipstick palm in crisis!
by Tropicalliving- 5 replies

We purchased this palm about 4 months ago second hand when it was thriving. it is in the same pot we purchased it in. We noticed it’s fronds we’re turning brown and drying out so we increased the watering. It continued to perish so we cut back the dead//dried out parts. there is new growth but now I am concerned about the black spots I found on the three main stems that died. we live in tropical Darwin, Australia where the weather is always warm and mostly humid. Please take a look at the pictures I’ve attached. Any advice about what I should do from here will be so greatly appreciated! Thank-you in advance : ) Rikki : )

Hello everyone, My cycas which has recently been planted (used a liquid palm tree specific fertiliser when i planted) has had an issue with some "rust" like effect on leaves. Plant has sustained some heat as temps were over 35 here but don't know if this is related to heat or something else. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone, Great to find this place. I have had a chamaerops for a month, re-potted when i got it from the shop, and would like your advice as to the best way of taking care of the plant based on the issues i have encountered. - Leafs had some spots since i got it, maybe they have got a little worse; - There is some bending on some blades/leafs; - Tips seem to be brown on some leafs. Plant has so far had some really hot summer with over 35 celsius, it is exposed to sun most of the day and i have been watering every 2 days or so. Any advice would be welcome.
