Chamaedorea anemophila seedlings not doing great
by fotodimatti- 9 replies

Dear palm friends! Whats wrong with my seedlings? I was rather lucky germinating a RPS batch of Chamaedorea anemophila seeds a year ago. But most of the seedlings seem to suffer a bit. They show brown tips. I grow them indoors in non-direct light in moist soil with good drainage. With temperatures of 16-18 degrees Centigrade in the night and up to 20 degress in the daytime. In the winter I push the air humidity to around 60% with the help of an air humidifier. Some specimen I have even put into a mini greenhouse with 80-95% air humidity. But almost all of them show brown leaf tips. I grow other understory palm trees with much more success in the very sa…

I have some seedlings of this plant, which I keep under a cover, considering it is a rainforest plant. But now that they have grown up and are running out of covers, I would like to ask if they are sensitive to humidity and can survive at 30%-40% humidity.

My seconda coconut palm

This od my seconda coconut palm, which I bought on May 7, 2022. At first it was pretty, but then it caught a spider mite and I can't get rid of it with any chemicals. The leaves slowly turn yellow. Do these roots look healthy? I spray the palm with warm water almost every day. He has a very clear position. I water every 7-10 days because the root ball dries slowly. The soil is permeable. Palm pot, drainage with holes at the bottom. I live in Poland, so it's not like Florida or California.

Tricks for taking taking a potted sabal out of its pot
by opiecrunch- 5 replies

I've read that sabals are extra sensitive with having their roots disturbed..have a couple palmettos in pots that I'm debating planting outside this spring..they haven't become potbound yet,so I won't be able to pull the palm out of the pot with everything intact..just wondering outside of carefully cutting the pot,if there's something I'm not thinking of..thanks

Good morning everyone, and Happy Easter to all that celebrate 🎊 My Licuala Grandis hasn’t been doing very well but I’m not sure what is wrong with it. It looks like some kind of mold/fungus. It has this white/yellowish area at the base of most leaves. I couldn’t identify any large changes when it started. Humidity is too low but I’m working on a solution, receives plenty of light but not too much direct sunlight. Soil could probably be improved upon. Perhaps someone could identify what is wrong? (And ideally propose a solution haha) I like it a lot so hope to save it 😁 Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. …

I have this tiny Jubaea Chilensis seedling. How soon should I repot it in a more fertile potting mix or supply fertilizer in the existing pot? It’s in a solo cup right now with not super fertile soil. Just basic starter soil mix with perlite and peat and topsoil.

Is there any chance to survive?

Hi, I took this plant (perhaps two months old Washingtonia) from a 11a warm region and planted it on the windowsill (5a outside). She suffered a terrible drying plane flight and looked almost dead for two weeks. Now she has a new thin root 5 millimeters long and this bright green stem (10mm). I use a phytolamp, maintain heat and humidity, but I don't know if the plant is still alive. Is there any chance and what should I do? Thank you

the nursery I bought from told me to spray Peter 202020 on the palm once a month and dynamite once a year? Is that right? does this change if the palm is now longer grown outdoors in shade cloth and now indoors by a south facing window?

Those of you who have brought your potted palms outside already; when did you do it and at what temperatures? How did they react? Any photos? I haven't dared to bring mine outside yet; max. temperatures here are less than 70F atm.

Hello lovely Palmtalk denizens, I was very excited to bring home my first palm, a Kenita I got from a local nursery, 5 days ago. I'm in Flagstaff AZ and it gets very cold here, and we've had a particularly brutal winter so I thought this palm looking as bit yellow was okay. But I brought her home and her fronds have gotten increasingly crinkled up. Is there something I could be doing better? I watered her once, have misted her every other day, and have had the humidifier running almost 24/7 too. Is it just a bit too cold in my office maybe? Thanks very much in advance to any help or advice you could offer for me! I hope to get one or two more palms in time…

Yellow washingtonia filifera

I have two Washingtonia Filifera palms in pots and both of them started turning yellow after their third leaf emerged. All leaves old and new started turning. I didn't change anything or add any sort of fertilizer. Potting mix was pertlite/peat only. They get plenty of sun. Is this an indication I need to fertilize?

Potted European Fan Palms and 1 Mule

My neighbor works in landscaping and offered me 2 European fan palms that were dug up and I decided to pot them for the time being. The multi trunk one is currently under a covered patio and I’m afraid it might not get enough sun but I guess time will tell. The single truck is pretty tall and is currently getting full sun. The mule was bought at a local nursery and is also getting full sun.

Palms in play sand.

Hi everyone, I have a broken aquarium that has about 5" of play sand and osmocote in it. I wanted to germinate some palm seeds in there and eventually move the seedlings into the yard. I have a piece of glass to place over it to keep in the heat and moisture. Any ideas if this would work?

I received the seeds from rps last October and have been putting them in the moss to promote germination. Only three had sprouted as of yesterday. Yesterday I accidentally noticed that the seemingly hard seed coat of this plant was very thin, so I broke the outer shell of three seeds to expose their bud points, and today I found that their bud points are all bulging.

When do you start fertilizing?
by Than- 5 replies

I have some very young palms, a Roystonea, a couple of Syagrus and a couple of Phoenix dactyliphera. They are in pots and have only two leaves each. They are about 1 year old. Should I start fertilizing them? I already fertilized the dactyliphera once and they didn't show any damage but I am more reluctant to fertilize the other ones. At what age/stage do you start fertilizing seedlings?

Palm disease? HELP!!
by Palmpalm365- 8 replies

Purchases two Robellini palms from Home Depot late last summer. Planted them in two different pots (new and cleaned with dawn then rinsed throughly) with the Miracle grow palm soil (orange bag). I didn’t trim them, just let them settle into their new home over the winter and acclimate to the new environment. Today I went out to start some light trimming and getting them ready for the summer time. During the trimming I noticed brown spots on a couple of the froans. I’m thinking that the palms have a fungus infection possibly? Maybe someone can identify and help me correct. Any information is helpful. Thank you!

Old chamaedorea elegans...cutting from the bottom
by Robert D. Young- 8 replies

I have an old chamaedorea elegans that I bought in 2017. It grew a trunk about six inches high but now is fading. Not sure if problem was over watering or simply old soil. I am wondering if cutting from the bottom and re-rooting from side roots could help rejuvenate it before it's too late?
