From Picked Chinese Fan Palm Seed to 14 months of Growing

In October of 2021 I picked around 10 very unripe Chinese Fan Palm Seeds from a family members home. I then placed all in a ziplock bag in wet paper towels. I changed the paper towels weekly until 1 sprouted, around 90 days after picking from the tree. I then transplanted the seedling to a small pot, then transplanted to the pot seen in the pictures here. I live in Florida 9b, my question is, from this stage how long should I wait till I plant outside in my yard?

I had to take my Sabal Yapa seedlings indoors because there's people working outside. They are growing faster because I'm watering them more often and humidity is very high in the 3rd floor. I took these photos of the silvery undersides in some of these seedlings.

Hey everyone! I am already beginning to go into my Winter madness (and it's not even officially Winter yet), trying to find stuff to do and such to make it until I can bring my Plants back outside. I have some Palms that have a very big root ball and it seems like the Planters at the store are either not deep enough or way too expensive. So I was thinking about building a few wooden planters. Once they are built, would you line them with some kind of landscape fabric or plastic (with holes for drainage) on the inside or put the Dirt directly in there? I was also wondering if some of you already did that and if so, would you mind sharing with me/us wha…

This is one I got from Meg out of cape coral., last September. It's done very well and is one of my fastest kings but I'm not sure which species. Anyway the largest frond was very lush green but it looks like it's burning. Does this look like underwatering? I know they like wet feet and I've been watering my indoor palms only once or sometimes twice a week. Thank you.

I know Ponytails aren't technically palms, but I figured this was the most relevant section for this question. My mom has a decent sized Ponytail and today she watered it, and these worms came out of the bottom of the pot. She would like to get rid of them so she's not having to kill and clean up worms every time she waters. Note this is the first time this has happened. Is there a way to remove them without bare-rooting and re-soiling? Google said to use insecticidal soap but it seems like, to kill worms, you'd have to use enough to also kill plants. Thanks.

Hello and thanks for reading. I have an all season tropical glasshouse with one bottle palm. It suffered some damage when it was planted in the grow bed, so I moved it into a pot. Before planting I had to remove one of the fronds and now it only has one full frond. There is another frond, but it is not opening. The palm has been in the same condition for almost a year and no signs that the 2nd frond is opening. I am fertilizing (Palm Gain 8-2-12) once/month now in an attempt to force the frond to open. There is no sign that the existing frond is dying, but I would like the second one to open. Any suggestions will be welcome. Two pics are attached.....one…

I am trying to design a mini indoor greenhouse for my potted tropicals. I won't be at home during the day and with the current heating costs in Europe, leaving the heating on for my plants is not an option. I have about 20 pots and thankfully most are quite small so I was thinking of making a small indoor greenhouse which could stand on a big sturdy table. About a meter long and half meter wide. The pots should all fit on that table. I am planning to construct a basic greenhouse, basically just a box with a wooden frame and sheets of clear plastic. Has anyone tried that? I am considering a DIY drip self-watering system for a couple of pots. I am thinking of a simple devide using a cord of some sort. I have seen many videos where people share successful stories but their plants are normally outdoors, or indoors but not inside a greenhouse. Mine will be inside a mini, tabletop greenhouse so evaporation will be much slower and humidity very high. Will a dripping system keep soil too wet and lead to root rot? Please share your experience if anyone has tried something similar.

I recent bought this windmill palm from a local nursery. Iv had it for about a month now, it’s mostly declined since I brought it home unfortunate since these guys are pretty pricey. It’s planted in a pot that seems to drain pretty well i see water coming out of the pot within 30ish minutes. Watered it a couple time the first week we planted it then once a week after that. Iv been reading this site a lot. a lot of the post seem to think it’s root rot, I just have a hard time believing that since it’s most definitely not in overly wet soil. Any ideas or is it just bad luck? I live in zone 8 and it gets 4-6 hours of sun. Thanks!

I have an 11X11, tent style greenhouse that I would like to keep above 20oF. I plan on keeping my cold hardy plants inside for frost and rain protection, but I would like to prevent the inside temperature from getting below 20oF. I currently plan on keeping a 100 gallon stock tank full of water inside, but will this hold enough heat? Any recommendations on heaters? The green house is protected by deciduous canopy. I'm in a warm zone 8A with low humidity and no cloud cover. Half full of cycads:

So long story short I moved from one hotel to another, and I've got a much larger floor to ceiling window but a much smaller windowsill to plop plants into. I've got roughly a 5" window ledge now. My last job, I had filled the windowsill with mostly aloes and succulents - but since I have a much larger window I'd like to bring in palm seedlings. Window faces south and previously cooked aloe vera and formerly dypsis Lutescens due to orientation of winter sun.

Whether moving homes at a not ideal time of year, or just being a doofus and promising some of your palms as temporary décor for an event (like me), cold weather makes moving potted palms risky. Assuming you have a warm space to start/stage, and a warm car/truck/van to put them in. What's the combo of temperature and walking distance (and wind!) that you would risk your mobile forest? Assume no critically tropical varieties that drop dead if the get a whiff of 40F. Personally, I get worried if it's in the 20s (Fahrenheit) and the wind is high. I once walked a big potted ivy 20 yards to my car (covered with a blanket!) in single digits calm weather and it …
