Hey Everyone, My name is David and I am very interested in growing the pigafetta species. I am really interested in them because they are so fast growing (that is why I love growing robusta but I heard these were even FASTER). Is anyone willing to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me some seeds. I am willing to pay as well. I have looks on rarepalmseeds but they are always out of stock. I also have a lot of robusta and sabal seeds, so I am willing to make a trade. Thanks! David

I think I’ve figured out why most of my potted Palms succum
by IndoorPalms- 0 replies

Earlier this week, I tossed about 6 majesty, coconut and foxtail Palm trunk “seedlings” (considering the size the label says they’ll grow) 😂 into my fire pit. I still have a couple/few left, but I notice something different between my pots, and nursery pots they come in: The nursery pots have large drainage holes on both the bottom and sides. The root bound containers drain instantly of water. So it’s always either damp or dry. Leaving little room for water build up. Ive gone thru some pots that I’ve drilled holes thru, and even 10 holes that aren’t big enough, won’t prevent the issue. On some of my pots, I’ve started drilling holes on the sides as well. It see…

Pinanga Disticha crispy leaves
by Lanimcl- 3 replies

I’ve recently potted these two young Pinanga disticha palms indoors 6ft from a west facing window with a grow light for additional light and a humidifier set to keep ambient relative humidity at 60%. However I’m noticing the leaves are drying up and dying. Is this too much light? Or too little? the soil is well draining and moist but not wet…

Jubaea Chilensis - spear pull
by The Converted- 4 replies

Evening all I was hoping someone might be able to provide some reassurance... I have a small, 5 year old JC. It was left out for much of the winter, albeit, undercover. On a couple of really cold (-9) nights it was moved into the conservatory. A couple of months ago I noticed that last years spears (which were still emerging) were starting to brown. I thought I would give them a gentle pull, and unfortunately they both pull straight out. I suspect the cold got to it given we had several weeks where even day time temps barely got above freezing. After my initial panic / disappointment I order some Hydrogen Peroxide and treated the growing point every coup…

Chamaedorea anemophila seedlings not doing great
by fotodimatti- 9 replies

Dear palm friends! Whats wrong with my seedlings? I was rather lucky germinating a RPS batch of Chamaedorea anemophila seeds a year ago. But most of the seedlings seem to suffer a bit. They show brown tips. I grow them indoors in non-direct light in moist soil with good drainage. With temperatures of 16-18 degrees Centigrade in the night and up to 20 degress in the daytime. In the winter I push the air humidity to around 60% with the help of an air humidifier. Some specimen I have even put into a mini greenhouse with 80-95% air humidity. But almost all of them show brown leaf tips. I grow other understory palm trees with much more success in the very sa…

Areca Palm Struggling Indoors
by Theguitarman- 1 follower

I have this Areca palm that was kept outdoors last summer in Illinois, USA. It did well and was repotted in August 2022 into a very large pot, maybe 18” diameter and 20” tall. Once the temperature started dropping in October 2022, it was brought indoors for the winter. It has been watered every 10-14 days, and given Palm Tone fertilizer twice since then, once in winter and once recently The leaves have some discoloration, which I think is just old leaves that need to be trimmed. The color looks alright, not great. But I am concerned because it shot out a new leaf a few weeks ago, but it hasn’t opened up yet. Any help would be appreciated! I think the weathe…

My seconda coconut palm

This od my seconda coconut palm, which I bought on May 7, 2022. At first it was pretty, but then it caught a spider mite and I can't get rid of it with any chemicals. The leaves slowly turn yellow. Do these roots look healthy? I spray the palm with warm water almost every day. He has a very clear position. I water every 7-10 days because the root ball dries slowly. The soil is permeable. Palm pot, drainage with holes at the bottom. I live in Poland, so it's not like Florida or California.

What pots should I get
by PashkaTLT- 1 follower

Hello guys, So I get my palms in those black nursery containers with holes at the bottom. I assume I need to put those nursery containers in some good looking pots? And those external looking pots should have no holes (otherwise how do I water my palms inside?)? But if the external pots will have no holes, there's a chance that too much water will stay at the bottom?

Parlor Palm leaf damage

I have parlor palms at the office that were in good shape for 4+ years but suddenly are declining. I thought some of this could have been from sunlight damage, or insect damage, or perhaps a wrong soil formulation. Any ideas on what to do here to reverse the decline?

Old chamaedorea elegans...cutting from the bottom
by Robert D. Young- 8 replies

I have an old chamaedorea elegans that I bought in 2017. It grew a trunk about six inches high but now is fading. Not sure if problem was over watering or simply old soil. I am wondering if cutting from the bottom and re-rooting from side roots could help rejuvenate it before it's too late?

Hi guys, just thought I'd show you my garden centre rescue palm. Found this in between Christmas trees in December in the local garden centre chain store. Cost me £2.50, so that's $3.60! It flies! Put out two full leaves so far with two more nearly out. Will try planting out in the spring but won't survive a bad winter here without an awful lot of protection.
