Areca Palm Struggling Indoors

I have this Areca palm that was kept outdoors last summer in Illinois, USA. It did well and was repotted in August 2022 into a very large pot, maybe 18” diameter and 20” tall. Once the temperature started dropping in October 2022, it was brought indoors for the winter. It has been watered every 10-14 days, and given Palm Tone fertilizer twice since then, once in winter and once recently The leaves have some discoloration, which I think is just old leaves that need to be trimmed. The color looks alright, not great. But I am concerned because it shot out a new leaf a few weeks ago, but it hasn’t opened up yet. Any help would be appreciated! I think the weathe…

My seconda coconut palm

This od my seconda coconut palm, which I bought on May 7, 2022. At first it was pretty, but then it caught a spider mite and I can't get rid of it with any chemicals. The leaves slowly turn yellow. Do these roots look healthy? I spray the palm with warm water almost every day. He has a very clear position. I water every 7-10 days because the root ball dries slowly. The soil is permeable. Palm pot, drainage with holes at the bottom. I live in Poland, so it's not like Florida or California.

What pots should I get

Hello guys, So I get my palms in those black nursery containers with holes at the bottom. I assume I need to put those nursery containers in some good looking pots? And those external looking pots should have no holes (otherwise how do I water my palms inside?)? But if the external pots will have no holes, there's a chance that too much water will stay at the bottom?

Parlor Palm leaf damage
by Robert D. Young- 1 follower

I have parlor palms at the office that were in good shape for 4+ years but suddenly are declining. I thought some of this could have been from sunlight damage, or insect damage, or perhaps a wrong soil formulation. Any ideas on what to do here to reverse the decline?

Old chamaedorea elegans...cutting from the bottom
by Robert D. Young- 8 replies

I have an old chamaedorea elegans that I bought in 2017. It grew a trunk about six inches high but now is fading. Not sure if problem was over watering or simply old soil. I am wondering if cutting from the bottom and re-rooting from side roots could help rejuvenate it before it's too late?

Hi everyone, I have a broken aquarium that has about 5" of play sand and osmocote in it. I wanted to germinate some palm seeds in there and eventually move the seedlings into the yard. I have a piece of glass to place over it to keep in the heat and moisture. Any ideas if this would work?

Washingtonia Robusta

Hi guys, just thought I'd show you my garden centre rescue palm. Found this in between Christmas trees in December in the local garden centre chain store. Cost me £2.50, so that's $3.60! It flies! Put out two full leaves so far with two more nearly out. Will try planting out in the spring but won't survive a bad winter here without an awful lot of protection.

I have some seedlings of this plant, which I keep under a cover, considering it is a rainforest plant. But now that they have grown up and are running out of covers, I would like to ask if they are sensitive to humidity and can survive at 30%-40% humidity.

Is there any chance to survive?

Hi, I took this plant (perhaps two months old Washingtonia) from a 11a warm region and planted it on the windowsill (5a outside). She suffered a terrible drying plane flight and looked almost dead for two weeks. Now she has a new thin root 5 millimeters long and this bright green stem (10mm). I use a phytolamp, maintain heat and humidity, but I don't know if the plant is still alive. Is there any chance and what should I do? Thank you

Yellow washingtonia filifera

I have two Washingtonia Filifera palms in pots and both of them started turning yellow after their third leaf emerged. All leaves old and new started turning. I didn't change anything or add any sort of fertilizer. Potting mix was pertlite/peat only. They get plenty of sun. Is this an indication I need to fertilize?

I have this tiny Jubaea Chilensis seedling. How soon should I repot it in a more fertile potting mix or supply fertilizer in the existing pot? It’s in a solo cup right now with not super fertile soil. Just basic starter soil mix with perlite and peat and topsoil.

Good morning everyone, and Happy Easter to all that celebrate 🎊 My Licuala Grandis hasn’t been doing very well but I’m not sure what is wrong with it. It looks like some kind of mold/fungus. It has this white/yellowish area at the base of most leaves. I couldn’t identify any large changes when it started. Humidity is too low but I’m working on a solution, receives plenty of light but not too much direct sunlight. Soil could probably be improved upon. Perhaps someone could identify what is wrong? (And ideally propose a solution haha) I like it a lot so hope to save it 😁 Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. …
