by DoomsDave- 5 replies
- 1.9k views
Hello, all: Anyone who sent me a private message asking for free Sabal minor seeds should have gotten a PM advising that they have been mailed. If you did not, let me know, and let me know your address, as well. I have a lot of seeds still left. If you didn't get a PM: a. I might have deleted your PM to me by mistake (as we say in the U.S., "duh") b. I might have sent you seed but misspelled your name c. You might have not sent me an address to mail them to. Have no fear! If you want seed, ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE. Not many deals like that left. No strings, no scam, no spam. Just the love of palms to all my palm friends all over the world. …

Giant "Pony Tail Palm" for Free
by PALM MOD- 9 replies
- 1.9k views
I'm posting this in hopes this tree can be saved. It is in the San Luis Obispo, California area. Contact username "slosquirrel" for more information, or ask your questions here. Ponytail Palm Tree needs to be removed. Also referred to as an Elephants Foot Palm (because of the trunk). The scientific name is Beaucarnea Recurvate. Tree is approx. 15ft tall at the highest point and the base / trunk approx. 5ft in diameter. Has 3 large stalks (that could likely be separated to produce 3 individual trees). Tree is very mature (approx. 30 years old) and healthy, but could benefit from some pruning and TLC. A specimen this large is very rare as they are usually confined to s…

I have a bunch of free seedlings. I have lots, I didn't really plan things out so well. I also have some cups with germinated seeds, some of which have sprouted above the surface. Livistona decora Sabal minor Phoenix canariensis Phoenix reclinata Phoenix roebellini Chaemerops humilis Archontophoenix alexandrae (clusters) Trachycarpus sp. And other stuff, succulents too. I may be interested in freebies as well, but nothing in mind. Dracaena draco

Hello, everyone: I am giving away a Livistona chinensis palm, aka Chinese fan palm. Pick up and take away only, Labor Day Weekend only, for the reasons noted below. As you can see from the picture it's about 18" (0.5 M) across the base. It will take full sun, high heat and frost. Excellent palm for inland areas, including Riverside and San Bernardino. Also great near the beach, like gnarly. Lush, bright green; lovely when the crown grows back. Tough and not bothered much by pests or disease. Good for a lawn or well-watered garden. Up to 40' tall with time (20 years). It will survive droughts, but much better with regular water. It's already dug, so you don't have to …

I had a fun time germinating some Archontophoenix C. seeds and some Phoenix Canariensis x ? (probably dactylifera)seeds. However now I have a bunch of seedlings that I have no use for, and I just can't bear to get rid of. The king palm seedlings are all in two 1g community pots. The phoenix seedlings are mostly in 4 inch liners. If you can put them to use, "Come and git em!" Sorry, no shipping. I'm in Chula Vista, 10 minutes south of San Diego. PM me if interested, thanks!

Sabal: You Name it, You Got It...Free Seeds
by AggiePalms- 4 replies
- 1.8k views
Hey everybody I think the pictured trees are an unusual Sabal variety; they are growing nearby to my house, and are native I assume? They get large (up to 3-5 m) and costapalmate with very twisted leaves - more like S. maritima and some of the other non-native species. Not so much like typical S. palmetto or S. minor, or have I just been missing this variety all these years? These grow right down to the brackish water line, no more than 30 cm above the water, on a very small island. They are very hardy, having survived temperatures of c. -9C. If you can tell me what variety of S. palmetto/minor these are, I will happily send you some very fresh seeds. If you can…

I have several nice talls that need a home to someone who would appreciate them for the beautiful palms they are. NO i will not ship in any way or form sorry, you want one you got to come get one. Shockingly the market doesn't seem to respond to these in my area, coconuts have become a dime a dozen around here and nobody seems to understand the beauty of a tall.

Serenoa repens blue

I have 50 fresh fruits/seeds. The who one announces interest first gets them all! I am not however sure whether seeds are viable. This year fruits maturing of this particular plant has been super fast but fruit size is not the big one like oilives it used to be in the past. Also seeds seem to be almost but not fully developed, however one other time that same occured to me on a Livistona decora, seeds had nevertheless a high germination rate, but a abortion can not also excluded. Besides seeds will be sent with flesh because cleaning leaves a nasty stamp like through ink on fingers!

Free posts used for shadecloth structure
by Hilo Jason- 1 reply
- 1.8k views
Rather than put these in a landfill I figured I would see if anyone here had the need for any of these posts that I made for my shadecloth structures. These are 1.5" pvc, about 7-8 feet tall each. The base of each is a 8" x 8" concrete block with the PVC pipe cemented into it. I would bury the bases so you couldn't see them and it added more support to have them buried. These work good if you are looking to cover a section of your yard with shade cloth and not just 1 palm with a shade cloth tent. Pick up in Fallbrook. I have 8 poles available, and the cross section pieces. PM me if interested.

Older seeds - Can't remember if they are 1 year old, or 2 years old. Just don't want to deal with them. No idea if they are still good - and won't bother toying with them. Cover the cost of getting them to you - and if you have something to trade, even better. PM me with the number of seeds you want, and whether you want to offer something in trade or not. (NOT NECESSARY.)

Zamia floridana seed

I have a bunch viable Zamia floridana seed that I want to give away. Membership has its privileges, IPS members will be given preference. Sorry, I am not willing to pay for the US postage for shipping. I will be attending the South Florida Palm Society Spring Sale at the Montgomery Botanical Center on March 17, any leftover seed will be donated to the free seed booth. PM me if you are interested. I really love this Florida native cycad. Although this cycad is no where near to be extinct however its native ranges have been greatly reduced by development and agriculture. A flour-like starch called arrowroot was made from this cycad in the early 20th century. …

Free Archontophoenix Cunninghamiana

I have decided I no longer want this king palm planted where it is. It's been in the ground for 2 years from a 15 gallon. I know these have touchy roots but I wanted to offer it for free if anyone wanted to take a chance and dig it up. If so, it's yours. If not, then I'll be cutting it down this weekend. Here's a picture: I would say that it is 12 - 13 feet tall.

Two BIG FLAT RATE BOXES FULL OF Palm SEEDS!
by The Silent Seed- 7 replies
- 1.7k views
Hyphaene coriacea, and Veitchia spiralis I planted these seeds this summer, and just potted up the ones that have sprouted - but still have 100 seeds of H. coriacea, and over 120 seeds of V. spiralis that have not germinated. I have no idea if they will, or not - but they still feel heavy and solid - Please understand that this is AS-IS, you may have GREAT germination, OR you might not - Please know what you are getting. They have been planted since the summer - so they are dirty, messy. I just put them all in a flat-rate box of each. They are medium flat rate, so after tracking, it will be close to $15 each for postage, for each box. That is all I ask. The H. coriac…
