Free Seed = Livistona sp
by Kumar- 4 replies
- 2.1k views
I wrote an account of my findings at http://www.palmtalk....howtopic=28646. An outcome of that afternoon was some three dozen or more surplus seed of both varieties of what appears to be some species of Livistona (that I mistook for Pritchardia initially)? and which I'm giving away free. Let me know if you're interested. I don't know how feasible this is but if possible I would like to send the entire lot to one person in the USA if he or she is willing to thereafter post smaller quantities to all those who want any in North America - as this helps to keep my international postage costs low. Below are photos of the plants in question - yet to be identified - and see…

Hello everyone! I have sold my home and must move my Ptychosperma propinquum before Saturday, June 2. It is located in Port Charlotte, Florida. I have already left the house and the new owners are allowing me to return to get this palm before they move in. It is stunning and has already been trimmed back for moving. I have added photos of it before it was trimmed and some after. This is a rare palm especially for this area. It has been growing beside my 'former' home next to a large bottle brush tree. This blocked it from the wind, except for the part that was higher than the house. During the cold spouts I would wrap it with a piece of carpet and plastic a…

Hello Palmtalkers, Keith got me thinking with his post... I Have a L. decora that has fruited and the seeds are ripe. This is the first year it has fruited and it's very exciting. The fruits are just starting to fall off the tree. I was curious if anyone wanted some? I have many. Send me a PM and leave a note here as well. I will cut the seeds down in a few days and dole them out. If you want to send a buck or two for postage, cool- but let me get them mailed out first, I have Paypal. If you don't want to send a buck or two no worries. Thanks.

by ThunderSRQ- 2 replies

I'm going to be thinning out these bromeliads and will save some if any local folks want them -- they are a short (approx. 12" to 18") green variety that spread very slowly and do great under oak canopy. Tim

NEW FREE SEED OFFER - MOST ARE FRESH!!!!
by The Silent Seed- 14 replies
Time for another big giveaway! I have a lot of irons in the fire, and need to free up some space! Most of these seeds are fresh (less than 3 months or thereabouts.) Some are already planted. The ones that say "pkt" I only have one, or two packets of. (Most of the packets are a little older. Winter-ish?) No guarantees on germination, etc, since we all grow our stuff differently. With the already planted seeds, keep in mind that they will be dirty, discolored, may have a light coating of mold, etc etc, since they are in dirt, in pots. A few things to keep this offer simple, and fun: there will be a flat fee of $5 and $10 depending on how heavy your p…

Howdyall: I have some Chamadorea radicalis seeds to give away, no charge. These are all from female tree-type plants, with pollen from nearby male bush-types. Hardy as sorrow, and persistent as the Reaper. Great pot plant, even in Alaska, etc. Please shoot me a PM, with the words "Chamadorea radicalis seeds" in the subject, plus your address in the message and I'll mail some to you. I'm going to wait a couple weeks to gauge interest, then send the seeds out in a couple of weeks or so. Best Dave

Chamaedorea oreophila, (was C. monostachys)
by Darold Petty- 5 replies
This palm is considered the third most frost hardy, after C. radicalis and C. microspadix. Unfortunately in my very cool, humid microclimate the palm is afflicted by thrip. I gave away previous plants to a friend in a hot, inland area (Brentwood, CA) and the thrip problem went away, his palms are growing well. I purchased these three 1-gallon plants shown in the photograph as a second attempt to grow this species in my garden. They are mature, and two have flowerstalks. However they have been damaged by thrip also. I don't care to attempt to control the thrip with chemical pesticide so I offer them for free. The only condition is no shipping; you mus…

Free seeds from Puerto Rico
by Cindy Adair- 5 replies
Very limited fruit seeds and should germinate quickly if planted ASAP. I soak for three days, changing water daily. All will die probably below 50 F. Marang (3 seeds only), a couple of Garcinia laterifolia, a few rambutan and some Amazon grapes. Lots of Astrocaryum sp. seeds: solitary, very spiny, but lovely tree! A focal point for sure! Search my posts for photos or PM me if questions as I'm not 100% sure of the species name. I've promised a few already. For the rest, free shipping in the U.S. I'm not sure about shipping elsewhere and will decide depending on the response.

Acrocomia aculeata - free
by Lucinda- 8 replies
This is a downright nasty, dangerous palm and I've reluctantly decide to remove it from my garden. The tree is about 10 feet tall, actually very pretty -- but those thorns, oh my! It grows fast, needs virtually no attention. Free to anyone tough enough to dig and carry it away. Otherwise I'm going to cut it to the ground. Location: Snead Island, west of Palmetto, south of Tampa, just north of Sarasota. p.m. me if you're interested, Lucinda

This has been in my raised planter for a year from a 5gal. The under sides of the leaves are silver. The trunk is a little weird and it hasn't rooted solid yet so it wobbles a little but is growing well. I am replacing it with my new Pritchardia. Your free to come over and take it! I'm digging it out right after this post. PM me is interested.

FREE large Arenga engleri to good home in So-Cal
by DoomsDave- 8 replies
- 1.9k views
Howdyall: One of the Arenga engleri in my bustling hedgerow of same was not happy, so I removed it. It appears that it just didn't keep up with the herd relative to the water competition from the other Arengas near it, and was starting to decline. It's now sitting in a big huge bucket of water waiting for someone to come and get it, take it home, and love it, or at least cuss it with grace. The picture shows it next to the infamous Green Monster, for scale. PM me, and arrange a pickup. First come, first served, sooner the better. When you get it home, let it soak a day or two in a bucket of water OUT OF THE SUN AND WIND. Then, plant it in a big pot, …

Desmoncus sp.
by Jeff in St Pete- 5 replies
- 1.9k views
I went for a hike in the rain forest near the Naranjo River the other day and collected some fresh Desmoncus sp. seeds. These were collected on private property with the permission of the owner. According to my Costa Rican plant books, there are four species of Desmoncus in this country so I am not sure which species these are. Desmoncus is a climbing palm and is very spiny, so beware! I can send out several small packets of seeds. Please PM me with your name and address.
