Golden Gate Palms
by John Case- 1 reply

I stopped by Golden Gate Palms in Richmond yesterday and I feel that I must ask; 'What has happened to this place?' The gate was open, although the hours for Sunday are marked 'Closed'. I'll leave the names out for this report as I am only reporting my experience. I went in and met the person in the yard and told him I was looking for something small to take up my hill to plant on Earth Day. I am not a big Earth Day supporter but looking for an excuse to plant a tree was pretty easy. After shedding the suggestions of a Pygmy date Palm, Queen Palm, and 'Fan Palm', it became pretty clear to me that the person attending probably knew less about the stock than I. I a…

@palmsOrl and myself went over to Largo to see @SWFLchris's operation. Chris had a large selection of palms that aren't available in your typical big box outlets. I picked up two Carpentaria acuminata seedlings and a Cryosophila warscewiczii to add to my landscape. @palmsOrl posted his plunder on this thread in the Discussion forums: https://www.palmtalk.org/forum/index.php?/topic/64208-new-palms-a-floribunda-order-and-a-trip-to-see-chris/ Some of the inventory for this nursery is listed here: https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/grd/d/largo-rare-palms-huge-selection-of-1/7126808922.html A few of my Tampa area friends like @RedRabbit and @Chatta will be…

I often buy bulk Jubaea chilensis seeds from this vendor and always have a pleasant buying experience. The seeds germinate reliably and at a 75-85% rate or better. Recommended, especially for Jubaea seeds. Bruce used to go by @botanical treasures on the forums. https://www.ebay.com/usr/gullivergall

I got a package seized because of a missing phytosanitary certificate. US Customs destroyed the seeds and (by protocol) sent the USDA to inspect my nursery. Meanwhile, this company says they should not destroy the seeds and sends me a copy of the phytosantary certificate. I got in touch with Customs and they had destroyed them already. They refuse to either partial refund of my money, or send a reduced seeds with a phytosanitary. Be very aware of this company as I don't think they know how to ship to the USA and will not correct what is their fault.

Internet Palm Vendors

Hello All, Aside from RPS & Ortanique, I've been watching the following palm seed suppliers. Can anyone vouch for them? Any troubles ordering/receiving seeds? Are their seeds fresh; do they germinate? I don't want to be gypped or have my cc# stolen. Seedrack.com Thaipalmseeds.com Amazonia Palm & Exotic Seeds - This site confuses me. It offers some seeds "in stock", others as "coming soon" with proviso that buyers commit to purchase at unspecified prices. I don't commit to anything open-ended like that and I've noticed in the past several months the coming soon stuff never arrives. What's the deal?

I'm from Nebraska and found Josh via Craigslist and have made two visits to him to pick up palms. Always great choices, many more exotic species here than typically seen so it's easy to impulse buy! I always leave with more knowledge about palms and putting many more on my mental list to have in the future. Since I drive here from Nebraska I'm limited by what I can haul back in my truck... Thanks Josh! you know I'll take great care of them. Scott/Omaha

Hello, Chris (JubaeaMan183) offered to sell me a nice looking Attalea cohune before the holidays. We corresponded by PM and text. I sent him money via paypayl, and he told me he would ship it the week after Christmas. I have not received it nor heard back from him since that time despite several text messages. It looks like he has not logged on here since December 26th. Does anyone know if he is okay? Thanks, Daniel

Jungle Music mail order
by Darold Petty- 8 replies

I dropped out of the bidding at the Darian meeting for a Dypsis, and soon afterward had a severe case of bidder's remorse. I telephoned Phil Bergman at 10:00 AM on Tuesday to inquire if he had this species. "Yes, and we can mail-order it to you" was the response. Phil sent me a Dypsis in the 5-gallon pot, not bare-rooted. The package arrived at my home on Thursday at 2:00 PM, just 52 hours after our conversation. The palm was in perfect condition and was exactly as he had described it. Thanks Phil !!!

Jurassic Garden/A&A Cycads/Maurice Levin
by Ben in Norcal- 9 replies

Hi All, I take negative feedback very seriously, but I feel obligated to raise a flag regarding Jurassic Garden/A&A Cycads. There seem to be some significant issues over there at the minute. I put in an order on February 8th, 2015, and after many attempts to track down status, I finally received PART of my order on 3/21/15 (6 weeks later.) The order was incomplete, with items on the 2nd page excluded, and I am now attempting to track down status of the remainder. Also, I was not sent a promised "freebie" that was supposed to be a "thank you" for patience during the extraordinary shipping delay. I can't comment on this operation outside of this one order …

Does anybody here have experience with these guys? I have been eying their stock for a few months, and would like to get my hands on some of their palm seeds. Some of the species they're offering have been available on their site for more than 6 months already, so I'm not too sure about the viability at this point. Would just like to know if anybody has ordered from them, and what the experience was like. Their site: http://www.baobabs.com/nbga_IN.php
