Sabal mauritiiformis

I recently picked up this 15 gallon Sabal mauritiiformis without researching it...you know how that goes... Anyway, looking at the freeze reports last night, I realized that it wouldn't live to the end of the year in Santa Rosa. Is there anyone in the bay area who this palm might be worth trying? I'd trade for something hardier, otherwise you are welcome to attend the memorial service in January. PM me if interested, thanks. -Will

I just returned from a trip to my family's country home in central Louisiana where I collected some fresh Sabal minor seed. Here is a picture of the seed I will be cleaning tonight. And here are pictures of where the palms were - I went through the water on a 4-wheeler to get them.

I have a quart freezer bag of Sabal palmetto seeds I collected from wild palms and cleaned recently. I would like to expand my Sabal palmetto germinating experience to other Sabal species. If you would like to trade your Sabal sp. seeds (or possibly another palm species that can survive SW FL climate) for mine, PM me.

Hi Everyone. I went to Dick Douglass house on Saturday and he was gracious enough to give me a whole BUNCH of Sabal Riverside seeds from his tree in his front yard. I'm sure he can elaborate more on the history of his tree, if need be. At any rate, I only need about 50 seeds (and even then, that's too many) and I've got about 300 or so extra. I'm willing to send these out to whomever wants to grow them. Just PM me with your info and I can send you a batch of about 15 or so. If you want more (within reason) just let me know. I want to make it fair for everyone. I will send the stuff out on Saturday so y'all can get it soon enough. I'll just send seeds until I run ou…

Hello, I have a few extra Sabal Sp., mostly S. mauritiiformis and S. bermudana, but a few others as well. Plus, I wanted to post some pictures. S. bermudana S. mauritiiformis A side by side Here's a few pics from the mother plant. it is he shorter one - I couldn't get into the crown of the larger one, as the leaves were packed too dense! The photos below were taken over several years. I have a few of these suspected Causarium X Palmetto seedlings from an odd looking sabal. Kyle Wicomb graciously sent me these seeds, and I germinated them in 4/2014. They were collected at UF Gainsvill…

seed swap
by palms2plant- 0 replies

Mainland US. I have a few seed types I can ususally gather some of anytime in my Southern Cal area . In particular those of you in Florida might be able to get a few on my seed wish list like Dictyosperma album (hurricane plam) or Lantania verschaffeltii (yellow latin palm). I am proposing we swap some seed. The main thing is the seeds need to be ripe and not from the ground to reduce any chance of sending a bug and ensure freshness. They also need to have the fruit removed. If interested Pm me. Sorry if you are outside the US mainland but the law requires an import license. Local seeds often available Archontophoenix cunninghamiana (king) Brahea edulis Chamaed…

Assuming that B. armata is relatively easy to find out west and that S. repens is not easy to find out west, I'd like to see if anyone is interested in a trade of equivalent plants. I'm looking for plants w/ character leaves. I can get S. repens including the silver variety in most sizes. B. armata has proven difficult for me to get past the strapleaf stage here in north Florida. Once it gets some size, they seem to hold their own much better. I have rarely see it for sale, even at palm society meetings, etc. The large plant at Dr. Young's property in Tampa really is awesome.

I have 5-6 Syagrus botryophora one strap seedlings that I would like to trade for cold hardy seeds or seedlings. They'll never make it past the first winter here so I need to trade them. I don't mind shipping these but in the lower 48 US states please. I will try and get a picture of them today and would like to trade all of them at once. I'd like to have more silver Serenoa repens or Chamaerops cerifera but will consider others.

I have 40-50+ queen palm seedlings sprouting in the middle of my shade garden. They got to go but, dang it, sometimes I'm too soft-hearted for my own good - it's the mother in me. I was tempted to hack them out and toss them on the compost pile but that seemed awfully harsh (even to queens) fate for these little guys who escaped the seed weevils. My husband suggested I offer to give them away (assuming anyone wants them), so I said, "Why not?" I've never sent seedlings before but I guess there has to be a first time. Will someone step up and give these guys a home? They're kind of cute in a baby palm sort of way. I convinced 3 to pose for photos. PM me if intereste…
