Ficus dammaropsis

This is the last of the Ficus dammaropsis for a while, possibly until next year, as I have no new propagations working right now. When potting up I usually just score and cut the pot and drop it into a larger pot so as not to disturb the roots and while doing this I discovered that this propagation was extremely well rooted with an entire 5 gallon root ball! It had completely abandonded and dried out it's original stem and there was no milky sap running through it at all. This means the new roots are doing all the work = strong propagation. I think I'm perfecting my technique. I took some shots because I thought it was interesting. This is now in a 7 gallon pot a…

Hi Group, We just got in some very cool and large Dypsis deciepiens. They are in 25g and about ten to twelve years old. They have never been in the greenhouse; outdoor grown. These are the type of decipiens with the new red colored spear and the white crown shaft like you've seen at Mardy Darian's place. Basal caliper is five to six inches. They are heavy so I cannot easily mail order them, but could arrange a trucker. Also important, they are locally grown in the San Diego area so they should prove to be excellent for anyone's garden around here. I only have six or seven of these for sale. They are $450 each. I don't think they will last too long. Drop b…

Encephalartos munchii blue seedlings
by yachtingone- 5 replies
- 4.9k views
I have Encephalartos seedling for sale. Seedlings of this very rare cycad don't come on the market often! This plant is from Mozambique, Central Africa. These are fast growers. They get 3' tall and 18"+ diameter caudex. They have beautiful quite blue to gray green leafs. The flushes vary in color. They like lots of heat and sunshine and respond well to regular fertilization. They don't like a hard frost but I know of one doing well in Lake Elsinor, CA which get frost every winter and snow last year. The seedling pic is one of the plants for sale. They have from 2 to 4 leaves and most are flushin right now. There is a hint of blue in some of them already. I ha…

Finally!!!!!! I was reading a thread from August 2010 and saw that I mentioned that I had air layers working and hopefully I'd have some Ficus dammaropsis ready for sale. Well, now 9 months later they're all rooted out, potted up, growing, happy, and ready to sell. 7 gallon pots, 10 gallon pots, they are all the same price, $200 each. This plant is an easy grow for anyone in Southern California, from the beach to the inland valleys, does fine in full sun or full shade, very well suited to our climate. You will not find this plant for sale at any nursery, only occasionally from plant enthusiasts, like me, who have taken the time to go through the lengthy process of…

Pachira aquatica seeds: braided money tree, money plant
by PalmatierMeg- 13 replies
- 4.6k views
Our Pachira aquatica tree, i.e., Malabar Chestnut, flowers and produces large pods of seeds/nuts almost year round. The species is a tropical tree native to Central and South America where it grows near swamps and wetlands. This tree is also called Money Tree or Money Plant, is frequently bonsai-ed or its juvenile stems braided as an expression of feng shui. For those purposes, the seeds are highly desired but are usually only available from Thailand or China, from which they are very expensive, of dubious quality and subject to seizure by US Customs. The nuts produced in fleece-lined shells can be eaten raw or roasted although I haven't tried them. Seeds germinate readi…
