No Soliciting Sign Rule
by Jastin- 22 replies
My wife and I do a lot of our work from home where we record videos, teach, etc. We are constantly getting interrupted causing us to have to re-record videos or interrupting our classes. I have a sign that says "No Soliciting" but no one obeys it. I get comments like," im not selling anything to you so I can knock on your door if I want by law" or "im sorry I didn't see the sign" (even though its right at eye level). Were so frustrated with this! We are the type of people that would never buy,get into, or want to hear about a product if someone were to come to our door, even if we had the time to listen to them. If we want something we just go out and find / buy it. D…

Avast ye lubbers! Today ye must scrape the barnacles off yer rudders and set sail under the jolly roger! For 'tis International Talk Like a Pirate Day, the main objective being silliness, sometimes enlivened by grog. Ye can sing a shanty like this: (all hearty voices now) I'm a pirate! That I be! I sail me ship upon the sea! I stay up late til half past three! And that's a peg below my knee! Would any of ye bilge rats know the true reason a pirate wears a patch over one eye? Aye aye! Weigh in with yer own merriment here, me brethren of the coast!

The Pup We Kept :)
by Pedro 65- 2 replies

4months ago I had a thread called 7pups sleeping, well all went to good homes and 1 is a stayer here. In the small pup pic she is on the right a fantastic and very smart dog just like her mum. All our dogs swim in the dams daily mainly chasing ducks, they never get them but great exercise. Smithfield stumpytails have Australian cattle dog and Dingo in them ( not all are born with a stumpy tail as you can see the mum has a tail) which makes them very loyal to their family and untrusting of strangers, which is fine because if we aren't here visitors know to stay in the car and come back when we are home. I was perusig the California Invasive Plants Website and noticed that 2 items in my garden are invasive...... Now I think I have them under control but maybe I should reconsider/ My criminal plants are: Iris pseudacorus 'Yellow Flag Iris' I keep it in my water garden (in a pot to control it) Persecaria capitata 'Pink Knotweed' It is between flagstones in my sideyard. I think I'll have to look around and see what else is invasive. What do you have?

Organic Manure from Jeff Searle :)
by Pedro 65- 15 replies

Jeff Searle sent me a bag of gear "he made" for me to trial and add to my palms n garden, wow Thanks Jeff. Jeff said he collected the cow and chook manure from his property but had to get the sheep manure flown in from NZ, I think Richnorm supplied that. The Mushroom compost comes from "Magic mushrooms" which had to be flown into Florida from Far NTH NSW ( here) where they grow in "any cow paddock" All other ingredients Jeff swears was sourced in Florida. Thanks Jeff, I will be throwing this around today and let you know if you should go into "mass production", great labelling btw, did your wife Andrea design this ? All best Pete

The python killed the dog, named Duke, in minutes. The snake was killed and is being sent to the University of Florida for a necropsy, said Carli Segelson, a spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Last month, a rock python made headlines after killing two sleeping boys in Canada. "Why wor…

Here is a short respite from the frustrations of daily life. The artist is a computer animation engineer in his day job. This imagery is the product of more than two years of effort. This is just one more reason why I love living in San Francisco ! http://vimeo.com/69445362

Free Apps for Android
by DoomsDave- 7 replies

Howdyall: Temporarily misplaced my Android in the Red Chair of Doom/Bank when it slipped in there. It's on vibrate so it's hard to find when it slips behind or under something. I know that you can download apps to make it easier to find, by making it sound an audible alarm even when you have it set on vibrate. Verizon wants to charge me 2 bucks a month for such an app, but I don't want to pay. Anyone have any experiences? Thoughts? Bird-dog me, and I'll grateful. If not, I'll search and share here.

USB ports? Of Mice and Keyboards
by DoomsDave- 9 replies
Howdyall: I note that the ports that computers used to use for keyboards and mice are no longer used for that. Instead, you use the ports in front of the computer. The problem is, I have two USB ports, and three devices, all of which I want to use at the same time. Is there a way to configure a device to get it to use the port it's supposed to use? I'd like the mouse and keyboard hooked up in the back where they belong. I've seen those USB gang things, but that's another gadget to get liquid spilled on it. Thoughts are helpful. Thanks

Most people know that you can get a concealed weapon carry permit in Florida but most do not know that you can also open carry in certain situations. A New Garden Pest
by Jerry@TreeZoo- 0 replies

I write a monthly garden column for the local weekly here. It is not a big deal and I am limited to around 300 words so I never go into depth on any subject. This month it is: A New Garden Pest A new volunteer in the Arboretum told me about a pest I was not familiar with. Dr. John Warner, an entomologist with the UF, on a recent visit pointed out the Big Headed Ant, (Pheidole megacephala) or BHA. Originating on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, the BHA can now be found all over the tropical and subtropical world. It has been found in at least 17 counties in Florida. The BHA invades disturbed areas, which means everywhere that man…
