First law of holes
by _Keith- 11 replies
- 3.3k views
First law of holes From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The First law of holes is a proverb attributed to British politician Denis Healey.[1][2] It states, "If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging."[1][2] The meaning behind this proverb is that if you find yourself in an untenable position you should stop and change tack, rather than carry on exacerbating it. It has been cited numerous times by other politicians and in books.[3]

If you are Arachnophobic, Don't Read This Thread!

Blame my husband for sending me this one. I hope none of our Aussie Palmtalk friends have this issue. I like spiders and carefully carry them outside (without touching them) if they find their way inside my house. I enjoy watching them build their webs and admire their handiwork. However, assuming it's real, this link shows way too much of a good thing. http://www.viralnova.com/spider-fields/

Howdyall: Those who know me, know i like to cook. A lot. A whole heck of a lot. And, when you cook a lot, that oil gets in the air and coats things. A Chinese friend suggested a range hood with a big fan. Anyone have any experiences?

If I die
by doranakandawatta- 8 replies

If I die, please don't mention my birthday after I died! It can be emotionally painful for few of my friends. Or is it a way of remembering even after the death? which is quite a nice and friendly attitude, like the "in memoriam" logo Palmtalk team gives to those who left us. This shows how Palmtalk is a strong community. kindest regards Philippe

Ride on lawn mowers.....the good, the bad and the ugly.

Hello all, I have just sold my property in Tannum Sands and will soon be on the move to a 2.5 acre property near Airlie Beach along the tropical Whitsunday coast............ The property I have bought is a 5 bedroom. 3 bathroom house, a large 3 bay shed and basically nothing else except for 1 small fig tree and 2 Coconut Palms and lots of grass !!! So I am interested to see what others with large properties have in the way of ride on mowers............. today I had a look at some 'Hustler' models made in the USA with Kawasaki engines. I have been told that they are quite reliable. Others speak favourably of Husqvarna..... Need some ideas for a property with reasonably…

20th Anniversary, of Hurricane Andrew
by DoomsDave- 12 replies
- 1.4k views
Well, it's August, and 20 years ago, Hurricane Andrew hit Miami and Louisiana and packed a wallop. I'll never forget seeing on the news how Burger King's Miami headquarters was just trashed. And, one of my favorite greenhouses, Jones and Scully, in "Back Bay" blew away forever. And mile after mile in Homestead was reduced to . . . nothing but piles of busted wood. How palm after palm had to be "red tagged" at Fairchild. Horrifying, heartbreaking. Here's a link to wikipedia, but I know some PalmTalkers are H. Andrew survivors, and, I hope, see fit to share their stories . . . . http://en.wikipedia....urricane_Andrew

World Cup Rugby League - 2013
by Walter John- 6 replies
Hi folks, for those that do not know (most I'd say), there is a world cup of rugby league being played in Engalnd and Wales. Teams involved are: AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, ENGLAND, FRANCE, TONGA, FIJI, SAMOA, PAPUA NEW GUINEA (PNG), IRELAND, ITALY, WALES, SCOTLAND, UNITED STATES, and COOK ISLANDS. I wanted to post this because the USA team won their first ever World Cup match, defeating Cook Islands 32 - 20. Quite the historic event. Other first round winners included Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Italy, Scotland and France. I wonder which team would win for most outstanding palms in habitat. PNG ? FIJI ?

Murder at the Mana
by Walter John- 1 follower

It seemed a typical morning at Burrawang Mana, the sun had come up, clouded as it was, and boy is that always a good thing to happen, especially in the morning. Something though was different, something sinister in the air, I can feel it, sense it, breathe it and could almost stand on it and kick it, I put my boots on in case, the air was thick with foreboding and the palm trees threw off strange shadows of obscurity and mystery. There weren't any birds at the feed and water stands, that's not right, there would always be a king parrot duo or eastern rosella or two and some native pigeons and ducks hovering about, nothing, it was eerily silent, even the silence was qu…
