Hot Tuesday in SoCal
by MattyB- 11 replies

Well it's 98F here at the office in Lemon Grove with 25% humidity. It sounds like low humidity but it feels muggy and there's thunder clouds out in the mountains. Don't know why. Anyway, one of the hottest days of summer. Hopefully my place is staying in the low 90's due to the breeze. It usually does but I'll see when I get home. How was it for you today?

A great deal has been written about the advent of the new Supercanes resulting presumably from Global Warming and other forces linked to mankind's destructive tendencies. It is interesting to note that the most prolifically destructive Hurricane ever in the Western Hemisphere was experienced from October 10-18,1780.Few details regarding wind speed, tidal surge or other specifics were recorded but it's effects speak for themselves. The first landmass effected was Barbados, where the entire Island was defoliated and all dwellings were knocked down. The fury of the Storm was such that the survivors did not feel the shocks of an earthquake that accompanied the storm. It was sai…

The tidal surge is already starting to take it's toll on Galveston. They are predicting most of the homes there will be destroyed. There is already water flooding most of the island. About 1/4 of the island is already completely under water. Its going to get worse. Check out the storm surge predictions. The NOAA has issued a warning to Galveston that those who have not left and live in single family, one story homes face imminent death if the don't leave immediately. KTRK Live Video Feed

Ike is looking like one mean Cat.That nasty eyewall is eery. The Spagetti is all pointing to South Florida. Can you say 140 MPH! I am not boarding up yet.Grandad always said the Bad ones that hit here(Cape Verde's) always hit Puerto Rico.Ike is far higher than Puerto Rico. Reading Weather Updates on Hurricanes is like reading Razzmotazz. You know. The sociopathy of the Abernathy...Just hope Ike does not hit PR and does a David on us and our Palms.

Will it?

Cape Verde Storms are the Hammers in the Gallery of historical punishment for Florida.Although Hurricane Season technically runs from June 1-Nov 1,a brief review of substantial Hurricanes will show August 16-Sept 16 as the critical Cape Verde time-frame.The 1928 Hurricane that effected Palm Beach and the Glades hit on a Sunday night and was considered a September 16 Storm. Will Invest 92 be another Cape Verde destroyer or will it not?

New Zealand Storm - Worst storm for Many Years!

The storm has just passed Nelson, major damage last night (Wednesday). Hundreds of Trees down in Nelson, and our power was out for over 12 hours. The pipe supplying Nelsons water has been smashed in several places due to falling trees, and its estimated to take over three days to fix, we've been told to reduce our water consumption by 80%! Wow every things a bit of a mess at the moment, no serious damage in my garden, only a couple of fejoas broken down by the wind, it was getting up to 150kmph in some places! No palms damaged at my place, but I'm sure others may not be that fortunate. Hows everyone up north going? is there much damage to your gardens? Regards, Nathan

California, Arizona,Texas and Florida consistently are the States with the Highest Maximum Winter temperature.November 29,2007 Fort Myers,Florida was reported as having the highest temperature in the Continental US.That is interesting because I saw Cocoa Beach reporting 90 degrees F.around 3:00PM.I also think the Highest Low would be interesting.I think Key West took that yesterday with 76 degrees F.Any States challenge these numbers?

So, I thought I would share our office policy, which you might want to use for your area as well. Office Procedures Concerning Storm and Office Closings As we watch the progress of the storm, the following are the firm's guidelines based upon the hurricane's intensity: Hurricane Category #1 No excuse for being late. Leave earlier to give extra time to avoid fallen trees and limbs. Hurricane Category #2 Due to the horizontal rain, you may wear jeans. Hurricane Category #3 Whereas most of the area will be flooded we suggest you avoid wearing open toe sandals when coming to work. Canoes will be provided to get to the building safely without getting wet. …

Farmers Almanac
by Scott- 3 replies

I read a news story saying that the Farmers Almanac (Debbie Downer) is forecasting a very rough winter ahead. It doesn't surprise me at all. We didn't even see leaf drop here last year until December. It's already starting. YUCK!!!!! I hate winter and all the wind and cold that it brings. My biggest concern, of course, is that we don't get the horrendous freeze that we saw a couple of years ago.

I thought I'd start an Aug 08 weather thread as no one has done it yet. It's cool but sunny here in West Oz. It's meant to be sunny nearly every day right up until at least mid Aug. Not bad for winter, but I could do with spring right now. Best regards Tyrone
